Team News

Rangers boss Danny Rohl shouldn’t make too many changes from the side which came from 2-0 down to beat Falkirk 6-3 before the split.

Mikey Moore was withdrawn at half-time in that one due to a nagging injury from which he’d been suffering that week, but he’s had sufficient time in the last fortnight to shake that off and should start again.

Andreas Skov Olsen is also back in contention after playing and scoring in a friendly against lower-league Spanish opposition on Rangers’ trip to Marbella last week.

Dujon Sterling ought to return at right-back in place of captain James Tavernier, who this week announced that he will depart the club in the summer after 11 years.

Tuur Rommens is still missing, while German striker Ryan Naderi has made a speedy recovery from the injury which was expected to rule him out for the remainder of the season. Rohl, though, has confirmed that this game comes just too soon for the former Hansa Rostock man.

Jens Berthel Askou’s Motherwell were boosted this week by the selection of five of their players for the PFA Scotland Team of the Year.

Calum Ward, Paul McGinn, Elijah Just, Elliot Watt and Tawanda Maswanhise were all recognised by their peers, and all should feature on Sunday.

Johnny Koutroumbis has a calf issue which might keep him out of the short trip to Ibrox, while Regan Charles-Cook is close to returning after an ankle injury.

Eythor Bjorgolfsson has missed the last two and could again be sidelined for the Well, while Zach Robinson remains a long-term absentee.

Rangers vs Motherwell Predicted Lineups

  • Rangers: Butland; Sterling, Djiga, Fernandez, Meghoma; Raskin, Chukwuani; Skov Olsen, Moore; Chermiti, Miovski
  • Motherwell: Ward; Sparrow, McGinn, Welsh, O’Donnell; Fadinger, Watt; Maswanhise, Just, Longelo; Said

Rangers vs Motherwell Odds

The home side are healthy 8/15 favourites, while you can get 4/1 about a Motherwell win. The draw is a 10/3 prospect.

It’s 4/6 for Both Teams to Score, while Youssef Chermiti is the favourite to net first at 10/3.

Rangers vs Motherwell Stats

  • There have been 3 draws in the last 5 meetings between this pair, with both winning once over that period
  • Rangers have netted 14 goals in their 3 most-recent games but have conceded 6 in that time too
  • Having for a long time boasted the best defence in the league, Motherwell have shipped 9 goals in their last 5 and kept just 1 clean sheet

Today's Football Fixtures

Handicap +1: Tie @ 13/5

There’s never much in it between these two.

Twice this season Rangers have gone to Fir Park, taken an early lead, and given it up late in the day.

And at Ibrox in December, Motherwell really pulled the Light Blues apart at times but eventually went down by a single Thelo Aasgaard goal midway through the second half.

So you won’t catch me predicting anything one-sided in this contest, even if the Well’s results have dropped off over their last five games.

Rohl’s Rangers have really stepped things up over a similar period, chalking up four straight wins and scoring 15 goals in the process. Still, they have been prone to the odd defensive lapse though, conceded six in their last three.

I do expect Rangers to keep up the momentum here, but it won’t be straightforward. I like the look of another single-goal success for the Bears at 13/5 with Betfred.

Connor Barron to Receive a Card @ 21/10

Connor Barron won’t start this game. The former Aberdeen players is still making his way back from a knee injury, and the Gers have signed Tochi Chukwuani to play in midfield since Barron was last a regular.

But what he has provided in his four substitute appearances since returning to the squad is energy late on in proceedings.

I expect him to be given a similar role in this fixture, and while the reduced minutes make a bet on him receiving a card something of a risk, just think of the circumstances in which he should be appearing.

If the game is in the balance, he will be entering at a time when there are important runs to be made and tackles to be committed. And a narrow lead could demand the odd tactical infringement as part of managing the game over the line.

That’s why I love the look of the 21/10 about the 23-year-old finding his way into Kevin Clancy’s notebook.
