Rangers vs Falkirk Prediction: Scrappy slow burner? 5/2 & 16/5 shouts say so

Rangers’ Europa League travails continued on Thursday but Sunday offers up an opportunity to extend their winning run in the Scottish Premiership to five games when they host Falkirk at Ibrox (14:00 GMT).
The Glasgow giants sit just one place and two points ahead of their visitors in fifth spot going into a must-win fixture. Check out my Rangers vs Falkirk predictions below, along with full team news and Betfred’s latest match odds.

Team News
The list of absentees for Rangers is only half of their battle. Out are John Souttar, Derek Cornelius and Mikey Moore among others.
Dujon Sterling is making his way back into the mix but won’t be rushed ahead of time.
But beyond that Rohl has to try to find the right balance after poor displays against Livingston and Braga since the international break.
That is particularly true up front, where strikers Danilo, Youssef Chermiti and Bojan Miovski have scored zero goals between them in the last five matches.
John McGlynn will be hoping to put out the same side which won 3-0 at Dundee United last Saturday. He is still without the likes of Jamie Sneddon, Lewis Neilson and Ross McIver.
Rangers vs Falkirk Predicted Lineups
- Rangers: Butland; Tavernier, Djiga, Fernandez, Meghoma; Barron, Raskin; Antman, Diomande, Gassama; Chermiti
- Falkirk: Bain; Adams, Allan, Henderson, Lissah; Spencer, Tait; Wilson, Miller, Williams; Graham
Rangers are naturally big favourites, with Betfred placing them at 2/5 for the three points.
The Bairns are 13/2 to spring a surprise and move ahead of their hosts in the Premiership table, while it’s 18/5 for the draw.
Danilo and Miovski are the two most fancied for the opening goal of the game, with both priced at 4/1.
Rangers vs Falkirk Stats
- Rangers have won all four of their league fixtures since Danny Rohl became manager
- Falkirk’s last top-flight win over Rangers came in 2006/07, although they did hold the Gers 1-1 in October to spell the end of Russell Martin’s Ibrox reign
- Of the Gers’ last seven goals in all comps, three have been scored by defenders, four by midfielders and none by attackers
Handicap +1: Tie @ 5/2
This is unlikely to be pretty for Rangers, whether they win, lose or draw.
In truth, it was only in the first half at Dundee earlier this month that they have really hit their stride under Rohl. But against the context of everything going on in G51, that is hardly surprising.
The manager, sporting director and chief executive who started the season in post have all since been sacked, with an extensive summer of transfer activity having left the club in a far worse state than they were in 12 months ago.
The German has come in and stabilised them in the league, but even he is finding it tough to sugarcoat the state of things. And his squad is showing frailties at every turn whatever the results.
On Sunday they come up against a Falkirk side who have already embarrassed them in that 1-1 draw in October, and if the likes of Chermiti, Danilo and Miovski continue to misfire there is a real question mark as to where Rangers’ goals come from.
I think they’ll have just enough to get the win here, but it will be a narrow one, and the 5/2 available for them to triumph by a single goal implies a 28.6% probability which I think understates its likelihood.

Draw/Rangers @ 16/5
I’ve already spoken about how this will probably be a tough watch, and it may take Rangers some time to get the job done.
In their two home league matches under Rohl so far they have found a winner after the break, and I think this could be more of the same.
So the 16/5 on offer with Betfred for them to turn a half-time stalemate into three points looks good to me.
