Aberdeen vs Celtic Prediction: Pick more Pittodrie pain for declining Dons

The incredible Scottish Premiership title race will take its latest turn on Wednesday when Celtic travel to Pittodrie to take on Aberdeen (20:00 GMT, Sky Sports Football).
Martin O’Neill’s side came from two down to rescue a draw at Rangers on Sunday, and this game in hand could see them leapfrog their neighbours into second. Read on for my Aberdeen vs Celtic predictions, the latest team news and Betfred’s match odds.

Team News
The Dons are attempting to limp to the season’s end without a permanent manager, with Peter Leven having been handed the interim role following Jimmy Thelin’s sacking in January.
Leven could be without Nicky Devlin, who was withdrawn late on in the defeat to leaders Hearts on Saturday, while Mats Knoester and Kristers Tobers are among those sitting out with injuries.
While Kasper Schmeichel may well be available again after illness, few Celtic fans would choose anyone but Viljami Sinisalo in goal for the trip north given the form of the Dane over the last couple of months.
Sinisalo turned in a great performance in the 1-0 win over Stuttgart in the Europa League, then deputised well for Schmeichel at Ibrox. So O’Neill could well give him the nod to continue until he is persuaded otherwise in this crazy title run-in.
Elsewhere, Auston Trusty is again suspended, with Jota, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Alistair Johnston all missing due to long-term injuries.
Aberdeen vs Celtic Predicted Lineups
- Aberdeen: Mitov; Lobban, Milne, Morrison, Molloy; Olusanya, Armstrong, Shinnie, Cameron, Bilalovic; Nisbet
- Celtic: Sinisalo; Araujo, Murray, Scales, Tierney; Hatate, McGregor; Yang, Nygren, Tounekti; Cvancara
The Dons’ frankly pathetic form sees them priced up at a huge 11/2 for the win on Wednesday, implying a 15.4% probability of them upsetting the champions.
Celtic are 4/9, while it’s 7/2 for the spoils to be shared.
You can get 8/11 about Both Teams to Score, while it’s 1/1 for one or both to draw a blank.
Aberdeen vs Celtic Stats
- Celtic have won 6 of the last 7 meetings in all competitions (scored 22, conceded 3 in those six), but the other was the penalty loss in last season’s Scottish Cup final
- Aberdeen have won just 1 of their last 12 Premiership games (D2, L9)
- Taking aside the 6-2 win over bottom side Livingston, the Dons have netted just 4 goals since December 14 in the league, failing to score in 8 of the last 10
- Graeme Shinnie has the third-worst all-time disciplinary record in the Premiership, and is seventh on the list this season following his booking against Hearts
Only Celtic to Score @ 13/8
If Aberdeen fans are looking for light at the end of the tunnel, they’ll presently only see it in the winding down of the regular season before the split occurs.
At least after Round 33 the Dons won’t be made to play Hearts, Rangers, Celtic, Motherwell and Hibernian again.
And perhaps over those last five games they can pick up the handful of points that might see them assured of Premiership football next season.
With only St Mirren remaining for them of the bottom six before the split, the Dons will be doing it the hard way until then, and champions Celtic ought to make hay against a side with no manager, no confidence and almost no goal threat.
The Dons have scored eight goals in the last 10 matches, but six of them came in the win over Livingston. Over the last three months they have turned Pittodrie from a seething pit to an easy day out.
Celtic should win without too much fuss, so the 13/8 is punter-friendly.

Graeme Shinnie to Receive a Card @ 13/10
Celtic came back from the brink in the Old Firm game on Sunday when they brought on Reo Hatate and took control of the midfield.
And I would expect O’Neill to emphasise the need for dominance in the middle when they head north-east for this one.
That makes Graeme Shinnie key to any hope Aberdeen have, and he will be required to battle from start to finish.
It’s something he’s certainly not opposed to given his career-long reputation for getting stuck in, and that has helped him rack up quite the rap sheet.
Last weekend he picked up a sixth yellow card of the season to go with a sending-off. And the 13/10 about him finding his name taken once more looks good to me.
