With hosts Switzerland having scraped through to the last eight of Euro 2025, they now face the toughest of tests against world champions Spain. The Swiss were heading out when trailing 1-0 to Finland in their final group game but Riola Xhemaili's stoppage-time goal earned them the draw they needed to progress.

That set up a last-eight showdown with a formidable Spain outfit on Friday (20:00 BST, BBC One), who won all three of their group games.

Team News

Spain are set to restore the likes of Ona Batlle, Laia Aleixandri and Olga Carmona to their starting line-up, while Claudia Pina and Esther Gonzalez should both also return to face the Swiss.

Aitana Bonmati proved her fitness in the final group game against Italy after recovering from viral meningitis when she made her first start of the tournament and she should keep her place for the quarter-final.

Xhemaili is pushing to start for Switzerland following her late heroics against Finland, while boss Pia Sundhage does have other options if she wants to make changes.

Alayah Pilgrim, Ana-Maria Crnogorcevic and Leila Wandeler are among the players who could come into the side.

Spain vs Switzerland Odds

Spain are the overwhelming favourites to win at 1/10 in 90 minutes, while they are as short as 1/50 to win the tie.

Switzerland are 20/1 to cause a huge upset by winning in normal time, while they are 12/1 to win the tie. The draw at full-time is available at 9/1.

Spain to win and both teams to score @ 6/5

Spain are expected to demonstrate why they are highly fancied to win the Euros by turning in another dominant display against the tournament hosts.

So far, Tome Montserrat's side have outclassed all of their opponents, hammering Portugal 5-0 in their Group B opener, before putting six goals past Belgium in a one-sided 6-2 victory.

La Roja eased off the gas a bit when beating Italy 3-1 in their final group game, but they will be fully focused for the quarter-final and another comfortable win is expected.

Switzerland will know Spain are likely to dominate possession in Bern and will have to be at their best if they want to avoid becoming the latest side on the end of a heavy defeat dished out by Tome’s side.

They have squeezed into the knockout stage after recovering from a 2-1 defeat to Norway in their first game to beat Iceland 2-0 before the crucial 1-1 draw with Finland.

Those results hardly suggest they are up to the task of keeping Spain at bay, though, and their recent games against them do not make for pretty reading.

Spain have run out 5-1, 5-0 and, most recently, 7-1 winners over the Swiss in the last three match-ups so it is all pointing towards something similar on Friday.

Spain are on an eight-game winning streak heading into the quarter-final but they have only kept one clean sheet in that spell, so Switzerland may well be able to score in defeat, especially as they have managed at least one goal in their last four outings.

Over 4.5 goals @ 6/5

A comfortable win for Spain is on the cards in the last eight clash so it could be worth backing plenty of goals in Bern.

Spain have won the last three meetings by a combined score of 17-2, with all three games featuring at least five goals, while two of La Roja’s three group games in the tournament have had five goals or more in.

Furthermore, Spain have scored 35 goals in their eight-game winning streak so they clearly have the firepower to rack up plenty more against the Swiss.
