Southampton will be hoping that they can secure their first Premier League win of the season when they host Leicester City at St Mary's on Saturday (15:00). The Saints have earned just one point so far after seven matches and they have lost their last two.

The Foxes picked up their first win last time out against AFC Bournemouth, so they will be feeling like they have found a breakthrough on the pitch. Read on for my Southampton vs Leicester prediction, including match odds and team news.

Southampton vs Leicester Betting Tips

  • Draw or Leicester and both teams to score @ 11/8
  • Under 1.5 Southampton goals @ 8/11

Southampton vs Leicester Odds

Southampton are 13/10, or a 43.5% chance, to take the three points here. Leicester are priced at 15/8 to win this match, giving them an implied probability of 34.8%. The draw is marketed at 12/5 (29.4%).

Both teams to score is on offer at 4/7 and over 2.5 goals can be backed at 4/6.

Leicester striker Jamie Vardy has scored twice in the league this season and he is 9/5 to score anytime on Saturday.

Team News

Southampton are still missing goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu due to injury, while Kamaldeen Sulemana has also been out with a problem, and is doubtful to make the squad again.

Defender Jack Stephens will serve the final game of his suspension. He was originally set to return against Arsenal last time out but the FA handed him a further two matches for improper conduct.

Ross Stewart was the front man for the Saints against the Gunners but boss Russell Martin could opt to reinstate either Adam Armstrong or Cameron Archer against the Foxes.

Leicester are without the services of  Patson Daka, Jakub Stolarczyk and Hamza Choudhury as a result of injury. Jannik Vestergaard has recently returned to training so he could be in contention to start at the weekend, likely in place of Caleb Okoli.

Draw or Leicester and both teams to score @ 11/8

Southampton have been very disappointing so far in the Premier League and have largely been too easy to play against. This is the kind of game that can define their season, against a fellow promoted side who are also at risk of relegation this year.

Martin likes his team to play possession-based football but that's all good when it's yielding positive results. The Saints haven't looked close to winning a game yet and it is hard to see any drastic change after the latest international break.

Steve Cooper has been spending time to figure out what works and doesn't work with his Leicester side and they landed an impressive win against Bournemouth last time out, and they will look to build on this at St Mary's.

The visitors will be looking to profit against a fragile back line that has conceded 15 goals in the league so far. Only Wolverhampton Wanderers (21) have leaked more goals than the Saints.

Southampton haven't been very good going forward either as they have only managed to score four times and that is the lowest tally in the division. Leicester will sense an excellent opportunity this weekend and I think they can get another result, but I'm not overly confident it will be a victory.

I have gone for double chance here to cover a draw as well, and I've added both teams to score to boost the odds. This is because BTTS has been a winning selection in four of Southampton's seven league matches, as well as in four of Leicester's.

Under 1.5 Southampton goals @ 8/11

When the Saints have scored in the top-flight this season, they have never managed to score more than once, and I suspect we will see this trend continue at the weekend.

They may be thinking that this could be the game where their fortune in front of goal changes, as they are facing a Foxes side that have conceded 12 goals themselves. However, I'm not convinced the international break will have given Martin enough time to drastically improve the attacking output of his players, and I think they could be in for another low-scoring afternoon on home soil.

It doesn't help that the Saints have failed to find the back of the net in five of their last seven Premier League matches at St Mary's. They need to improve quickly, but I think it will take them a few weeks before we see them have more joy in front of goal.
