Shrewsbury Town vs Wrexham Prediction: Goals on the cards at the New Meadow

Two teams at opposite ends of the table clash in League One on Thursday evening, as struggling Shrewsbury Town host promotion contenders Wrexham (Sky Sports Main Event, 20:00 KO). 

Town seem destined for the drop as they sit eight points adrift of safety, while Wrexham are in fine form with eight wins in 11 games across all competitions as they battle for back-to-back promotions.

Shrewsbury boss Gareth Ainsworth could be tempted to make a few changes after a 1-0 defeat at Leyton Orient last time out, with George Lloyd and Joshua Kayode among those pushing for a return to the starting XI. 

Wrexham were without Lewis Brunt, Elliot Lee, and Ryan Barnett for their win over Peterborough last time out. 

That trio have an outside chance of returning on Thursday but chances are all three will miss out again.

Wrexham are the 5/6 favourites to claim all three points, a win for Shrewsbury is 18/5 and a draw is 12/5. 

A low scoring affair is favoured with under 2.5 goals priced at 8/13, while overs is 6/5.

Wrexham are in excellent form with eight wins in their last 11 games across all competitions and they do appear the more likely victors ahead of Thursday's solitary League One game. 

However, Phil Parkinson's troops are far better at home than they are on their travels and Twon have picked up since Ainsworth took charge in November, so the best angle could be backing both teams to score at a slightly higher price than a straightforward away win. 

The Shrews drew a blank at Orient, but that was the first time they have failed to score under their new manager and they have scored in five straight home games since his appointment. 

There have been goals at both ends in five of Wrexham's last six games overall and they've only managed one away clean sheet since the end of October - at rock-bottom Burton.  

At 1/1 there is plenty of appeal in backing both teams to score here, but if you are feeling a little bolder a Wrexham win with goals at both ends is on offer at 16/5.

Veteran forward Steven Fletcher has had to settle for a bench role for Wrexham for the majority of the season, but his recent form may earn him a start on Thursday ahead of Ollie Palmer. 

Fletcher hit the winner against Peterborough last time out just 17 minutes after his second-half introduction to make it four goals in his last six games - despite playing for just 175 minutes across that period. 

He can continue his fine form with an anytime effort against the Shrews.
