Sheffield Wednesday vs West Bromwich Albion

Sheffield Wednesday have hope in their fight for survival. Their victory over Blackburn last weekend saw them move out of the relegation zone for the first time in eight months and they are one point above the drop zone with two games left to play.

In a huge game at Hillsborough on Saturday (15:00), they welcome West Bromwich Albion, who are needing to secure their play-off spot, while trying to build some momentum ahead of the end-of-season competition. This feels like a tough game to call with both teams having much to fight for, but I've had a crack at giving my Sheff Wed vs West Brom predictions below.

Sheff Wed vs West Brom Betting Tips

  • Over 2.5 goals @ 11/10
  • Mikey Johnston to score anytime @ 11/4

Match Odds

Sheffield Wednesday are 15/8 to win this one, giving them a 34.8% chance of victory. West Brom are on offer at 6/4, which has an implied probability of 40%. The draw is valued at 11/5 (31.3%)

Both teams to score is marketed at 4/5, having landed in just 39% (17/44) of Wednesday's matches this season, but it has delivered in 50% (22/44) of West Brom's fixtures. Over 2.5 goals is 11/10.

West Brom striker Brandon Thomas-Asante has scored 11 goals in the Championship so far and he is 11/5 to score anytime on Saturday.

Team News

The Owls are likely to be missing Ian Poveda and Di'Shon Bernard once again due to injury. Defenders Michael Ihiekwe and Bambo Diaby both went off injured at Ewood Park last Sunday, but could be available to return to action this weekend.

West Brom's Thomas-Asante will be available for selection after serving his one-game suspension against Leicester City last time out. Daryl Dike remains sidelined for the Baggies, while Josh Maja made an appearance from the bench against the Foxes.

Over 2.5 goals @ 11/10

This selection has been a winning bet in 45% (20/44) of both Sheffield Wednesday and West Brom's matches in the Championship this term, and with both teams still having much to fight for, I fancy that figure to rise by one this weekend.

The Owls scored three goals in their last outing which has put them in control of their destiny for the first time this season as they look to escape the drop to League 1. With one last game on home soil, where they could really do with three points, I'm expecting the Owls' players to be fired up for this showdown in front of a raucous crowd of Wednesdayites.

This is a big game for West Brom, too. It does seem like they should maintain their place in the play-offs, but after two defeats, they need to regain some momentum heading into the ruthless eliminator competition. Carlos Corberan's side were punished for not taking their early chances against Leicester and they won't want the same to happen against the scrapping Owls.

I think there will be goals at both ends in this one. And as a troubled Birmingham City fan, I hope that the Baggies can help us out as we play out our season-defining game with Huddersfield Town.

Over 2.5 goals at 11/10 Mikey Johnston to score anytime @ 11/4

West Brom winger Mikey Johnston was guilty for squandering two great opportunities at the King Power Stadium last weekend, which if converted, could've seen a very different game played out.

As mentioned above, they will looking to regain some momentum in the final two matches as they aim to secure their place in the play-offs, and Johnston will be relied upon by Corberan to get the Baggies over the line.

Since his arrival in January, the Celtic loanee has arguably been the best addition in the league from the winter transfer window. The Republic of Ireland international has scored seven goals in 16 Championship appearances, and he has had a huge impact on Albion's attacking threat.

Wednesday's defence are going to be in for a tough afternoon trying to keep him quiet, but I'm expecting him to grab a goal here, which could prove to be a huge goal for both these teams' seasons.
