Team news

Sheffield United have several players unavailable for the visit of Newcastle United. George Baldock, John Fleck, Max Lowe, Rhys Norrington-Davies and Ben Osborn are all sidelined through injury or lack of match fitness. John Egan, Rhian Brewster, Daniel Jebbison and William Osula are doubts for Sunday’s game, while Oli McBurnie serves his one-game suspension after getting sent off against Tottenham Hotspur last time out.

As for Newcastle, Joelinton and Emil Krafth are still out of action with knee injuries while Joe Willock is still a long-term absentee with a hamstring issue.

Double chance (Sheffield United or draw) at 13/8

The Blades came so close to their first win of the season last week in what would have been an outstanding away victory at Tottenham. Gustavo Hamer’s strike looked to win them the game but a hefty amount of stoppage time allowed the hosts to score twice to steal the victory at the death.

Paul Heckingbottom was furious after the game but now his attention will turn to another vital home game against Newcastle United. The Magpies have not started the season with the same intensity that saw them catch everyone off guard last year. They have managed just two victories from their first five matches and before their slender win against Brentford last week, they had lost three on the bounce.

They head into the weekend off the back of a hard-fought point against AC Milan at the San Siro in the Champions League, a game which they were very lucky to escape with a point from. They were the inferior side as Milan created chance after chance but for one reason or another, they couldn’t make the most of their dominance.

Newcastle are looking fragile, which is to be expected after such an incredible performance in 2022-23, and Sheffield United will feel that they can hurt them. They frustrated Manchester City at Bramall Lane a few weeks ago and even scored against them through Jayden Bogle. Then after their performance at Spurs, they are not a side to be underestimated.

Sheffield United to score first at 11/5

Following on from this, Sheffield United will be out on a mission against Newcastle after their heartache against Spurs. The crowd will be fired up after seeing their side put up good fights against both Tottenham and Manchester City. And with the slow beginning that Newcastle have had, they will fancy themselves to start on the front foot on home soil.

Summer arrivals Cameron Archer and Gustavo Hamer have had a taste for goals in the first few games, scoring once and twice respectively so far. Both these players will be turned to by Heckingbottom to deliver moments of magic against the Magpies as their attacking qualities are the best in the squad.

Newcastle look a shadow of themselves right now and a strong start for the Blades at the weekend could see them capitalise on this.
