The Hoops can take heart from their European performances this season, where Rovers took care of Icelandic opposition in Vikingur, winning 2-1 on aggregate in the Champions League, before losing to a useful Sparta Prague.

Bradley’s men then went on to beat Celje at the Europa League third qualifying round, but a final tie against PAOK proved too much for them.

Rovers lost the shot count 13-2, the corner count 5-2 and conceded 68 per cent possession in a 2-0 Tallaght defeat to PAOK and that suggests life could be tough when APOEL come to Dublin.

The Cypriot side have made a decent start to the domestic campaign, losing only one of their opening five contests and, while Τhrylos were beaten by RFS on a penalty shootout in their Europa League qualifier, Dominguez’s men were clearly the better side over the two legs of that contest.

At 9/10, there is enough in the price to think that APOEL will have too much class for Shamrock Rovers at Tallaght.
