The second game of a Monday night double-header in La Liga takes place at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán. Sevilla are targeting their first points of the new season against Getafe.
Europa League winners as recently as 2023, and once seen as a model for clubs looking to challenge the European elite, Sevilla are currently a shadow of their former selves, both on and off the pitch.
Boardroom disputes, a lack of investment and fan protests have provided the backdrop to their most recent seasons, with the last one delivering a miserable 17th-place finish. Matías Almeyda has since been installed as their eighth coach in the space of just three years, and it's fair to say the Argentine has a really tough job on his hands.
Sevilla have not spent any money so far in this window. Their business has consisted of the loan addition of goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos from Newcastle, while Gabriel Suazo and Alfon González have both arrived on free transfers.
However, none of those players have yet been registered with La Liga. That's a situation they'd ideally like to rectify in time for this match, but much may depend on whether they can close a sale in the hours leading up to it.
Promising youngster Juanlu Sánchez had appeared to be on the brink of an €18m move to Napoli. That deal may still go through, but reports suggest full-back José Ángel Carmona has rejected the chance to join Nottingham Forest.
Given all their problems, Sevilla gave a pretty good account of themselves on the opening weekend. Dodi Lukébakio and Lucien Agoumé both scored brilliant goals at San Mamés, but the Andalusians ultimately sunk to a 3-2 defeat against Athletic Club, with Robert Navarro scoring a late winner for the Basques.
Getafe have also got issues on the registration front, and they needed to look to the B team just to find seven players to fill the bench in their opening fixture away to Celta Vigo.
With injury problems up top, José Bordalás opted for a 5-3-2 system, with two emergency strikers. Midfielder Christantus Uche and winger Adrián Liso led the line, and both scored in a surprise 2-0 victory for Los Azulones. Their defence held firm throughout, limiting the Galicians to few opportunities, as the visitors executed their gameplan to perfection.
It's likely to be a similar approach on Monday from Bordalás. While he has been criticised for so-called 'anti-football' throughout his many years in this job, his Getafe sides are always tough to play against. You rarely sense that there is any serious prospect of them going down, despite what is often a limited goal threat.
Survival will be their primary objective again this season, but they'll sense a chance to put more points on the board here, which would leave them already in a good position heading into their first match at the Coliseum in September.
Team News:
With both clubs still struggling to register players, there may be some significant holes in the final matchday squads for this game, unless there is any significant transfer activity on Monday in terms of departures. We're therefore unlikely to see many changes from either coach, following encouraging opening performances.
Sevilla are missing Adnan Januzaj, Stanis Idumbo Muzambo and Joan Jordán to injuries, while defender Tanguy Nianzou is also a fitness doubt.
Despite the transfer speculation, Carmona and Juanlu have trained with the squad in the build-up to this fixture. Both should start unless there are any fresh developments.
As for Getafe, there's a strong chance we'll see exactly the same players take to the field, following such an impressive start in Vigo. That would mean another start for 17-year-old Davinchi who was impressive on debut at Balaídos.
Key striker Borja Mayoral should be fit enough to at least make the bench, but Álex Sancris is suspended, and is one of six unregistered players in any case. Yvan Neyou, Kiko Femenia, Juanmi Jiménez, Javi Muñoz and Abdel Abqar are the others that Getafe cannot select as things stand.
Sevilla vs Getafe Predicted Lineups
- Sevilla: Nyland, Carmona, Castrin, Salas, Sanchez, Agoume, Gudelj, Lukebakio, Sow, Vargas, Adams
- Getafe: Soria, Dakonam, Rico, Iglesias, Bekhoucha, Martin, Milla, Arambarri, Davinchi, Liso, Uche
Match Odds:
Despite their issues, Sevilla are the 5/4 favourites to win this game. You can back the Draw at 2/1, while Getafe are on offer 13/5 to record a second road victory in as many matches to start the new campaign.
There were five goals in Sevilla's opening match, and if you're expecting them to continue to entertain under their new boss, you can get odds of 13/8 for this one to serve up Over 2.5 goals. Both teams to score is priced at 6/5.
The hosts are on offer at 13/8 to score over 1.5 goals across the 90 minutes. You can also back Sevilla to win, Sevilla 6+ shots on target and Getafe most cards at boosted odds of 7/1.
Alternatively, Getafe or Draw is priced at 4/6 in the Double Chance market. The visitors are also available at 13/10 to win either half.
The home team's Nigerian forward Akor Adams leads the way as the 9/2 favourite to score first, while he's priced at 2/1 to score anytime. Lukébakio remains the standout attacking talent in this Sevilla side, and he's on offer at 11/5 to get on the scoresheet.
From a visiting perspective, Uche is priced at 7/2 to score anytime, while Liso is available at 4/1 in the same market, as both look to build on their opening day strikes.

Bet 1 - Both teams to score - No @ 4/6
There are enough doubts about both teams in the final third, to suggest there's a high probability that at least one will fire blanks here.
Sevilla had joy on the break in Bilbao, but this will be a very different type of game. They won't get anywhere near that much space to play in when faced with an organised Getafe back five that is likely to sit deep.
It's also hard to see Getafe sustaining their goal threat in the long run, not least while they are lining up without a recognised striker. They scored with two of their three shots on target in Vigo, but I'm not convinced they'll be as clinical here, and I'm backing Both teams to score - No at 4/6.
Bet 2 - Over 4.5 Sevilla corners @ 10/11
With so few options for changes given their registration issues, and following such an impressive result, there's little reason to think Getafe are going to do anything radically different in this game.
They limited an often free-scoring Celta side to only 0.73 xG last Sunday. That was despite having to sustain spells of pressure when they were camped inside their own half, and despite conceding nine corners across the 90 minutes.
Even though they finished 17th in the table, Sevilla ranked 10th for corners won last term, and I'm backing them to have over 4.5 corners here at 10/11.
