After picking up an unlikely point against high-flying Juventus at the weekend, Hellas Verona take their search for a first win of the campaign into a Coppa Italia second-round Veneto derby clash with Venezia at the Bentegodi on Wednesday (18:30 local, 17:30 BST).

The Scaligeri have yet to win in 90 minutes this term. But my Hellas Verona vs Venezia predictions, which follow with latest team news and Betfred’s match odds, will also need to take into account the visitors’ indifferent start in Serie B.

Hellas Verona vs Venezia Betting Tips

  • Verona to win & both teams to score (Price Boost from 16/5) @ 4/1
  • Verona to score in both halves @ 11/5

Team News

Boss Paolo Zanetti has to pick a Verona lineup which doesn’t feature the injured Abdou Harroui, Daniel Mosquera and Tomas Suslov.

Nicolas Valentini and Roberto Gagliardini could both return to contention but the pair won’t be rushed back given the lesser stakes involved.

Zanetti could choose to stick with the lineup which held Juve at the end and could even have won it late on.

For Venezia, there could also be minimal changes despite a first defeat of the season against Cesena on Saturday.

Alfred Duncan should get the start in the centre of midfield ahead of Kike Perez despite being shown a red card in injury time of the 2-1 reverse for twice swinging kicks at Cesena’s Emanuele Adamo.

The former Inter youth-team product’s suspension is confined to Serie B fixtures, making him eligible to play at the Bentegodi.

Hellas Verona vs Venezia Predicted Lineups

  • Verona: Montipo; Unai Nunez, Nelsson, Frese; Belghali, Serdar, Akpa-Akpro, Bernede, Bradaric; Giovane, Orban
  • Venezia: Stankovic; Schingtienne, Korac, Franjic; Hainaut, Doumbia, Duncan, Busio, Bjarkason; Yeboah, Adorante

Hellas Verona vs Venezia Odds

Venezia’s poor start to what they are hoping will be a bounce-back season following relegation from Serie A has helped to contribute to the size of Hellas’ favour in this one.

Betfred have the Scaligeri at 10/11 to win in 90 minutes and 1/2 to progress by whatever it takes.

Giovanni Stroppa’s visitors are an 11/4 shout for the victory in normal time (an implied 26.7% probability), and you can get 6/4 about them making it to the last 16.

There are a couple of Price Boosts available with Betfred too. It’s now 4/1 from 16/5 for the home side to win with both teams on the scoresheet, while you can get 9/2 when backing Verona to turn a half-time draw into victory. That one was previously 4/1.

Hellas Verona vs Venezia Stats

  • Both teams have scored in each of the last five meetings in league and cup dating back to October 2020
  • Verona are unbeaten in nine matches against Venezia (W4, D5), with the Lagunari last triumphing in February 2008 in a Serie C1 clash
  • The hosts have so far scored only three goals in five competitive fixtures this season, with four ending in draws (L1)

Verona to win & both teams to score (Price Boost from 16/5) @ 4/1

First up, I’m taking up Betfred’s offer of this Price Boost.

Sure, Zanetti has not led his side to a win yet this season, and goals have been at a premium. But there has been a lot more than that under the bonnet.

Their 1-1 draws with Udinese and Juventus have both come with a tinge of regret as they arguably deserved more in each encounter, and their 0-0 tie against Cremonese is no disgrace given the way the Grigiorossi have started.

The 4-0 loss at Lazio is their one no-show so far, making the 1-1 draw with Serie C Cerignola in the first round of this competition all the more surprising.

I believe they have the kind of attacking threats that Venezia will find it tough to hold off, with the visitors’ 2-1 loss at the weekend showing they have weaknesses in the defensive third.

Verona are gettable too, so I expect an ebb and flow to this one, making both teams to score a perfect partner to the bet on Serie A quality shining through.

Football Odds

Verona to score in both halves @ 11/5

The Gialloblu could well do with a hot start on Wednesday, with everyone in the Veneto region knowing that they have taken their time to get into games in Serie A this term.

They should have the wherewithal to get on top of their visitors in this one, and given the depth of their threats I reckon they can strike two or three times.

Gift Orban’s penalty was the extent of their returns against Juve, but having seen them a number of times this season it feels to me like a matter of time before they put a side to the sword.

And against Serie B opposition they have the perfect chance to stretch out their legs in an attacking sense. What’s more, this is a Venezia team who will back themselves enough to not come with a low block and little else.

So I can see Verona scoring early and then tagging on in the second period as Venezia look to become more adventurous.
