After coming from behind to win on the road in Lecce last weekend, Cagliari’s next task is to transfer their great Serie A form to the Coppa Italia in Tuesday’s second-round clash with Frosinone at Unipol Domus (17:00 local, 16:00 BST).

Andrea Belotti’s brace proved decisive at the Via del Mare, and home fans will be hoping he’s just as deadly against the Serie B side. My Cagliari vs Frosinone predictions follow below with full team news and Betfred’s match odds.

Team News

A fairly strong Cagliari side were held to a 1-1 draw by Virtus Entella in the first round of this competition, and Fabio Pisacane will likely make few changes once more.

Belotti should start after his two-goal showing at Lecce in what was only his second appearance for the Rossoblu since signing on a free transfer from Como following the end of his loan spell with Benfica.

Yerry Mina, who missed a penalty 35 seconds before Entella’s late equaliser in the opening round, should again start, but there will be no Zito Luvumbo due to an adductor injury.

Massimiliano Alvini might well decide to run out the same Frosinone team which bossed long spells of Friday night’s Serie B match against Sudtirol only to concede two goals in the final quarter and squander two points.

There’s still no Alen Sherri, who is on loan from Tuesday’s opponents and started the season as first-choice goalkeeper.

The Albanian suffered facial fractures late on in the 1-0 cup win at Monza in his first action of the campaign, so Lorenzo Palmisani remains the go-to choice in his absence.

Cagliari vs Frosinone Predicted Lineups

  • Cagliari: Caprile; Mina, Obert, Luperto; Palestra, Deiola, Adopo, Prati, Folorunsho; Esposito, Belotti
  • Frosinone: Palmisani; A. Oyono, Calvani, Monterisi, Bracaglia; Ghedjemis, Kone, Koutsoupias, Calo, Kvernadze; Vergani

Cagliari vs Frosinone Odds

As ever when a Serie A team hosts a second-tier side in the Coppa Italia, the home club is heavily backed for the victory.

Cagliari are a 7/10 shot, implying a 58.8% probability that this one will be won by the Rossoblu within 90 minutes.

It’s 12/5 for a draw in normal time, with Frosinone a distant 4/1 to cause an upset.

The Sardinians are 2/5 to win the tie by whatever means necessary, with the visitors 7/4 to progress whether in normal play or on penalty kicks.

Cagliari vs Frosinone Stats

  • Frosinone won more games on the road than they did at home in 2024-25, with five away victories compared to four at the Benito Stirpe
  • Cagliari haven’t gone beyond the round of 16 in the Coppa Italia since reaching the 2005 semi-finals, but they have only twice been beaten at this stage in the 20 years since
  • Despite being unbeaten this season, Frosinone have hit the target only 18 times in five games and scored six goals

Today's Football Fixtures

Cagliari to win to nil @ 13/8

Promising though their start has been, Frosinone haven’t exactly been battering the door of their opponents down this season.

Even with a 2-0 lead until the last 20 minutes against Sudtirol on Friday, they still only totalled five accurate attempts and ended up throwing away their position of authority.

Against a Cagliari side who looked excellent in Lecce on the same evening, the Canarini will need to produce their best performance of the campaign if they are to keep their cup hopes alive.

After going one down at the Via del Mare, Cagliari dominated the proceedings and could have won by far more had Wladimiro Falcone not turned in a wonder display. Sebastiano Esposito could have had a couple of goals too, but for the woodwork.

One has to expect that Cagliari will have too much for their lower-league opponents, for while Alvini’s boys have been fairly solid at the back for the most part in 2025-26, Friday’s collapse show they have the sort of soft underbelly which ought to be their undoing against Serie A quality.

Football Odds

Half-time/Full-time: Draw/Cagliari @ 7/2

One thing that could hold up Cagliari’s charge is that obduracy of Frosinone. Sudtirol’s pair of goals late in the fixture at the Stirpe ended a run of 332 minutes without conceding a single goal this season.

So it could take a while for the home side to make their breakthrough, but I also expect them to exhibit patience.

They did exactly that in Lecce, never once looking like they wouldn’t eventually break through despite Falcone doing his best to prevent them from doing so.

With players of the quality of Belotti and Esposito on hand, Pisacane knows he has the weapons to get the job done.

It might take some time to see Frosinone off, so the 7/2 odds – which imply a 22.2% probability – for Cagliari to turn a half-time draw into progression in 90 minutes looks extremely tempting.
