Bologna vs Atalanta Prediction: Don’t back on there being a winner in Bologna

Two of Serie A’s big European hopefuls go head-to-head on Wednesday when Bologna host Atalanta at the Renato dall’Ara (18:30 local, 17:30 GMT, live on Betfred.com/DAZN).

Team News

Bologna boss Vincenzo Italiano is missing goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski and key attacker Federico Bernardeschi through injury, while he has late decisions to make in a few other positions.

Nicolo Cambiaghi, Lewis Ferguson and Thijs Dallinga could all get the nod, with Jonathan Rowe, Nikola Moro and Santi Castro jostling for a start.

Atalanta have Odilon Kossounou and Ademola Lookman still engaged in Africa Cup of Nations action, and injury issues mean Mitchel Bakker, Raoul Bellanova and Sead Kolasinac are also missing.

Nicola Zalewski could miss out on a start, with Lorenzo Bernasconi likely to continue at left wing-back.

The bookies can barely separate these two, with Bologna 7/4 for the win and Atalanta slightly favoured at 8/5.

The draw can be backed at 9/4, while Ciro Immobile, Gianluca Scamacca and Nikola Krstovic are all 4/1 to score the opening goal of the game.

This should be a tight one.

On the one hand, Atalanta are the form team. They have four wins under their belts in their last six league games, including a 1-0 success over Roma on Saturday in Bergamo.

But Bologna are no mugs either, and over the course of the campaign, they have beaten champions Napoli and spent much of their time challenging for the top four.

They’re winless in five, but during that time, they also reached the Supercoppa final in Riyadh. And in Italiano, they have a savvy boss who will fancy pitting his wits against Palladino.

With the home advantage too, I think Bologna can get something out of this one. And the value is all there in the draw at 9/4 with its implied probability of 30.8% looking on the low side.

If this one is to be a close-run thing, then there will doubtless be a little bit more desperation about the challenges.

Referee Marco Di Bello has shown 21 yellows and one red in six top-flight games this term.

That’s including one game between Juventus and Udinese which featured five bookings and two penalties, and another (Como v Cremonese) which saw seven cautioned and one sent off.

And with the two teams combining for 26.5 fouls per game, there will be plenty of opportunity for Di Bello to stamp his authority. So the 5/4 seems like value to me.
