Followers of Scottish football have an action-packed Saturday schedule ahead. Betfred’s Frank Monkhouse has put together an away win treble at odds of just over than 8/1 at the time of writing…

Scottish Football Tips - 2 December, 2023

  • Hearts to beat Kilmarnock @ 13/8
  • Dundee to Utd beat Morton @ 4/7
  • Raith to beat Inverness @ 6/5
  • Overall Odds - 8/1

Domestic games return for lovers of Scottish football following the midweek distraction of UEFA’s three competitions, including the Champions League. Both halves of the Old Firm are in action on Sunday as Celtic travel to St Johnstone for a midday kick-off before Rangers host St Mirren at Ibrox from 3:00 pm. You’ll find in-depth previews of both games with predictions attached on the Scottish football section of our website and app.

The top three teams in the Premiership enjoy a rare free Saturday, paving the way for the best of the rest to grab the headlines. Saturday’s Premiership schedule presents three games, and there’s a full five-game fixture list in the Championship. There is plenty to keep us going, and we advise an interesting away win treble at odds of 8.08/1. Keep reading as we highlight each leg of our Saturday trio.

Hearts to beat Kilmarnock @ 13/8

It was far from a convincing start to the season for Hearts, but three wins on the spin have lifted them through the Premiership and into contention. The Jambos entered the weekend in fourth place with 20 points on the board and knew a win at Rugby Park would lift them into the bronze medal position. St Mirren, who are currently in third, visit Ibrox on Sunday and most pundits expect a home win. Hearts must take advantage.

Hearts were made to work for a narrow 1-0 win over Craig Levein’s improving St Johnstone last time out, and they’ll take heart from that performance. They’ve now beaten the Saints, Motherwell and Livingston in their previous three league outings, scoring four and conceding just one goal. Another win would show they’re serious about finishing third.

Opponents Kilmarnock start in sixth, are winless in two, and lost 2-1 when hosting Hearts in the League Cup earlier this season. Hearts look great value for an away win, and although another battling performance is required against Killie, we’re happy with the 13/8 offered by the Betfred trading team.

Dundee Utd to beat Morton @ 4/7

The other games in the Premiership look too close to call, so we drop a level to the Scottish Championship for the remaining two legs of our Saturday afternoon treble. Cappielow Park in Greenock provides the setting for our second pick, where bottom hosts top in the league, and we’re following the form, taking Dundee United to defeat Morton.

The hosts have endured some horrible luck regarding injuries, and it hampered their form in the opening exchanges. Manager Dougie Imrie has struggled to name a full bench most weeks, and the Ton is stuck hard at the bottom of the Championship. Morton has lost their last three games, winning twice in a dozen outings. They are already five points behind safety, increasing pressure on the manager and his current crop of players. Action is necessary in the winter transfer window.

Dundee United fans have had more to cheer than their friends across the fence in the famous Cappielow Cowshed with its biting December wind. The visitors arrive in Greenock sitting on top of the league table, with their stats showing nine wins and four draws from 13 outings. They’re unbeaten, and we make it unlikely they’ll lose their first game of the campaign against bottom of the Championship.

Raith to beat Inverness @ 6/5

We’ll admit to needing our share of luck to get the third prediction over the line and the bet home and hosed as a winner. Remaining in the second tier of Scottish professional football, we’re backing Raith Rovers to beat Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the highlands. Going to ICT and taking three points is no easy task, but this Raith side is punching above its weight. An away win on Saturday would prove they’re genuine promotion contenders.

Raith start second in the league, trailing Dundee United by just four points. The team from Tannadice remains unbeaten and sits in pole position on merit, meaning all Raith can do is keep winning, asking questions, and piling on the pressure. The visitors have won eight, drawn three, and lost just once this term. They impressed last time with an eye-catching 3-2 win over Queens Park before beating Hamilton in the Challenge Cup and Dunfermline in the Scottish Cup.

Inverness is seventh in the league and is proving difficult to beat, with their last five results showing two wins and three draws. Their previous league outing ended in a 1-1 draw away to Dunfermline before doing as expected and beating Cowdenbeath 2-0 at home in the Scottish Cup Third Round last Saturday. Caley is a tough nut to crack, especially at home, but we’ll take a chance on Raith Rovers.
