Scotland’s first game at the Euro 2024 was nothing short of brutal. Germany were two goals to the good within 20 minutes, and then Ryan Porteous was sent off for a horror tackle in the box. The game ended in a 5-1 defeat and the Watford man will now miss the remaining group matches, starting with Switzerland on Wednesday night (20:00, BBC One).

The Swiss on the other hand were impressive in their 3-1 win over Hungary. They have put themselves in a great position to qualify, and if they can beat Scotland they will secure their place in the knockout round, and could yet win the group ahead of Germany. Three points in Cologne is vital for both sides, and below you can find my Scotland vs Switzerland Bet Builder Tips.

Scotland vs Switzerland Odds

Switzerland to win

I was seriously impressed with Switzerland during their win over Hungary. They had control of the game for the majority, and managed to look threatening throughout against a talented opponent. Now I believe unfortunately that Hungary are better than Scotland, and so Switzerland should be able to secure another three points to take them into the last 16.

Murat Yakin’s 3-4-3 formation worked nicely, and Granit Xhaka was superb yet again in the centre of midfield. With Breel Embolo working his way back to full fitness, this could be a tournament that the Swiss grow into. I think they will have enough to get past Scotland in an entertaining encounter.

Lawrence Shankland and Kwadwo Duah to score

I’m backing both teams to find the net here, and I’m also backing two number nines to score in Cologne. Che Adams started ahead of Shankland against Germany, but that feels like a decision that Clarke got wrong, and he could correct it here against Switzerland. Shankland has been in sparkling form for Hearts, scoring 24 goals on the way to the Golden Boot in the Scottish Premiership.

It felt like Adams was chosen for his work-rate in what was a defensive gameplan from the manager. However, he couldn’t get hold of anything, and was isolated for the majority as Scott McTominay and John McGinn both sat deep. I believe Shankland will get the nod for this game, and that Scotland will have to come out on the front foot, in a more aggressive attacking manner. They were overwhelmed by that opening game and the circumstances around it, but I think we should see a far better display here.

Meanwhile, Kwadwo Duah was surprisingly given a start in Switzerland’s opening game, and he was superb. He had only played once for his country before, but opened the scoring  after a fantastic bit of movement sent him through one-on-one. He made no mistake with the finish and should be given plenty more gametime over the rest of this tournament. With Embolo still a bench option, I think Duah should start and score again.

Euro 2024 Odds

Each team over 3.5 corners

Switzerland had six corners in their opening Euro 2024 contest, and Scotland will have to come out and land a blow on their opponents, especially if they concede the first goal. I’m convinced both teams will want to attack this game, and as a result I’m expecting a healthy number of corners from both sides. Over 3.5 each seems like a fair bar to boost our Bet Builder.
