The Scottish Premiership returns for a full six-match programme following last weekend’s League Cup semi-finals at Hampden. Fixtures are split between Saturday and Sunday, and followers enjoy some interesting games from Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee, and Aberdeen.

Betfred’s Scottish football writer, Frank Monkhouse, previews the best of the action from Saturday and returns with a treble. Keep reading as he makes a case for three teams, including the locals, in a top-of-the-bill tussle at Pittodrie.

Saturday Football Accumulator Tips

  • Motherwell beat St Johnstone @ 9/10
  • St Mirren beat Hibs @ 7/2
  • Aberdeen beat Dundee @ 8/13

Treble pays @ 12.81/1

Motherwell beat St Johnstone @ 9/10

We open our Saturday treble in the Scottish Premiership with a bet on Motherwell to make home advantage count against St Johnstone at Fir Park. The Steelmen head into this game sitting fifth in the table following five wins, one draw, and four defeats, scoring 13 and conceding 13 goals.

That’s far from convincing, but the locals have won three of their previous five league games and beat Dundee Utd 2-1 at Tannadice last time.

St Johnstone travel from Perth with just two teams beneath them in the pecking order, Hearts and Hibs. The visitors have lost eight and drawn one of their dozen starts, scoring 15 goals but conceding 25.

They have the worst defence in the top flight, and we’re happy to oppose them until they show us something better.

St Mirren beat Hibs @ 7/2

For our one away win this weekend, we’re backing St Mirren to pile pressure on Hibs with a victory in the capital that would boost their chances of a top-six finish.

The Saints arrive at Easter Road in seventh place, with three wins, three draws, and six defeats. They’ve taken four of the last six points available and were impressive when beating St Johnstone in Paisley. St Mirren were painfully close to making it six from six but missed a penalty against Ross County last Saturday.

Hibs enjoy home advantage in their 12th game of the season but are currently rooted to the bottom of the Premiership after winning just one of their previous 11 games.

The Hibees have drawn each of their last three and would surely see another share of the spoils as a move in the right direction.

But we’re happy to trust an improving St Mirren that has the quality to pile more misery on their opponents.

Aberdeen beat Dundee @ 8/13

The game of the day comes from Pittodrie, where high-flying Aberdeen line up against Dundee in a clash you can follow live from 5:30pm. The Dons enter second in the table and could move into pole position with current leaders Celtic going to Kilmarnock on Sunday.

The locals suffered a heavy defeat at Hampden last weekend, but I’m happy to follow their league form. They are without a defeat in 10, winning nine and drawing the spare at Celtic Park. The chance to go top, even just overnight, will help Aberdeen get back to winning ways at a packed Pittodrie.

Dundee arrive in the Granite City on the back of an impressive 3-2 win over Kilmarnock last weekend, and they’ve won two of their last four, also beating Motherwell 1-0 at Fir Park last month.

The visitors are a capable side but will find the occasion too much, with their opponents simply wanting it more on another exciting night for the club. We sign off with a bet on Aberdeen to beat Dundee.
