San Jose Earthquakes vs Seattle Sounders Prediction: Both teams eager for first win

San Jose Earthquakes and Seattle Sounders will meet at PayPal Park in the early hours of Sunday morning (02:30), and it will be broadcast live on Apple TV in the UK.
Both sides are searching for their first win of the season, however Luchi Gonzalez's side are unbeaten in each of their last five encounters against Seattle, so the Earthquakes will be eager to extend that streak this weekend. Below is all the latest team news and match odds ahead of this MLS match-up, as well as our San Jose Earthquakes vs Seattle Sounders prediction.
Team News
San Jose remain without the services of Carlos Akapo and JT Marcinkowski, who are currently recovering from foot and ACL injuries respectively.
Niko Tsakiris has also been out of action since October after sustaining a back injury, and remains on the treatment table.
As for Seattle, Atencio will miss this game through suspension, while Xavier Arreaga, Braudilio Rodrigues, Stefan Frei and Reed Baker-Whiting will also be absent due to injury.
Match Odds
The hosts are slight favourites at 6/4 to win, implying that they have a 40% chance of picking up their first three points of the season, while the Sounders are 8/5, or a 38.5% chance of breaking into the win column.
The draw is 21/10, and both teams to score can be backed at 8/11.
Draw @ 21/10
Both sides have stumbled into the new campaign, and will fancy their chances of winning this game but I can see a low-scoring draw playing out.
The Quakes will want to preserve their recent unbeaten run against Seattle, especially in front of their own fans, and they've lost their previous two home games so far this season, only scoring once.
Seattle haven't fared much better, drawing two of their three encounters, after losing the opening game of the season against Los Angeles FC.
Neither side are scoring freely, which can make for a cagey, defensive affair.
Under 2.5 goals @ 8/11
As mentioned above, I can see this being a low-scoring game.
San Jose have scored three times in their four league games so far this term, but haven't scored more than once in any of those matches. Seattle, in similar fashion, have scored twice in their three encounters, but haven't scored more than one goal in any of those games, either.
Under 2.5 goals has landed in 33.3% of San Jose's outings this season, and in 66.67% of Seattle's, so it could be worth backing for Sunday's encounter.
