Roma vs Inter Milan Prediction: Dybala to take advantage of Inter uncertainty

Sunday's highlight fixture from Italy comes from the capital as AS Roma host Inter Milan at the Stadio Olimpico (19:45, TNT Sports 1), with six points currently separating the sides in the Serie A table.

Read below for my Roma vs Inter Milan prediction, complete with all the latest team news and match odds, ahead of this match week eight clash in Rome.

Team News

Stephan El Shaarawy and on-loan AC Milan winger Alexis Saelemaekers are Roma's only confirmed absentees heading into the weekend with Enzo Le Fee recently recovering from injury to make the bench for the 1-1 draw at Monza last time out.

Meanwhile, Mats Hummels is in line to make his debut for I Giallorossi after being benched for his first five games and missing out on the squad last time out.

Summer signing Artem Dovbyk failed to score in his first three appearances for the club but has four in his last five starts and is set to lead the line on Sunday, with Paulo Dybala potentially joining the Ukrainian in attack after injury prevented him from playing at Monza.

Tommaso Baldanzi, Mario Hermoso, Leandro Paredes and Nicola Zalewski were second-half substitutes at the Brianteo and will be pushing for starts against Inter.

Football Odds

Inter are still without injured Canada international Tajon Buchanan but Nicolo Barella should be fit to return after missing Inter's last three games and he could take the midfield spot of Davide Frattesi in Rome.

Marcus Thuram scored a hat-trick in I Nerazzurri's 3-2 win over Torino last time out and is expected to be partnered in attack again by captain Lautaro Martinez, who scored in Argentina's 6-0 win against Bolivia in midweek.

Piotr Zielinski scored in both of Poland's Uefa Nations League contests with Portugal and Croatia during the international break but has returned to Italy with an injury, so is unlikely to feature this weekend.

Roma are 16/5 to take all three points on Sunday while Inter are 5/6 to win for the fourth-straight season at the Stadio Olimpico.

The draw is priced at 11/4, both teams to score at 4/6 and over 2.5 total goals at 8/11.

Martinez (6/4) leads the anytime goalscorer market followed by Thuram (13/8), with Dovbyk (2/1) shortest priced for the hosts.

Double Chance & Both Teams to Score - Draw or Inter Milan & Yes @ 21/20

Inter endured a slow start to the Serie A season, drawing with Genoa (2-2) and Monza (1-1) either side of wins over Lecce (2-0) and Atalanta (4-0) before losing the Milan derby 2-1 to AC Milan.

However, Simone Inzaghi's side have regrouped since that chastening defeat, winning 3-2 in back-to-back league games away to Udinese and at home to Torino either side of a 4-0 thrashing of Crvena zvezda in the Uefa Champions League. It's not been pretty in Italy, but they've managed to get the job done and stay in touch with leaders Napoli, who are two points ahead of the reigning champions after seven games.

Roma, meanwhile, sit ninth heading into the weekend after winning just twice, though both victories have come in new head coach Ivan Juric's only home games in charge following the sacking of club legend Daniele De Rossi. Juric is unbeaten in league competition with I Giallorossi after following up victories over Udinese (3-0) and Venezia (2-1) with a 1-1 draw at Monza.

However, Sunday represents the Croatian's first 'big' Serie A game in charge of the club, and the former Torino boss will be hoping his players can at least take a point from it.

I think they have a chance of earning a draw, which is why I'm not totally backing the visitors, but I do think Inter are more likely to avoid defeat, so the double chance on Inzaghi's side is probably the smart play here.

Inter haven't lost to Roma at the Stadio Olimpico since October 2016 and despite their early-season wobbles are still favourites to retain their title this year in spite of competition from Napoli and Juventus.

Their usual rock-solid defence hasn't been apparent, though, which is why I'm adding in both teams to score here. I Nerazzurri conceded just 22 times in Serie A last season but have already allowed nearly half (nine) of that total after seven games, keeping just two clean sheets so far and none on their travels.

Roma have scored in every home match this term and with the likes of Dovbyk and Dybala in attack, will expect to get on the scoresheet on Sunday. They've also failed to keep a clean sheet in four of their last six Serie A outings, though, so a score draw could be on the cards here, but I'm backing the double chance on Inter and BTTS - Yes to be safe.

Anytime Goalscorer - Paulo Dybala (ROM) @ 11/4

Dybala failed to score in his first 10 league games against Inter - all for former sides Palermo and Juventus - but ended his drought against them in October 2019, netting in a 2-1 win for Juventus in Milan before firing in the reverse fixture, and he now has four in his last seven.

His most recent strike against Inzaghi's side came for Roma in October 2022 and he's only featured once in this fixture since, a brief substitute outing in February's 4-2 defeat.

It's been a stop-start season for the Argentine, who has only featured once in the league under Juric, but he scored in that victory over Udinese and is in line to start on Sunday.

With Inter's defence looking pretty dodgy in the early months, I like the odds of Dybala netting past Inter goalkeeper Yann Sommer in Rome.
