River Plate vs Libertad Prediction: River to secure knockout spot

Needing just a point to secure their place in the knockout stages of the Copa Libertadores, River Plate will be looking to get the job done in the early hours of Wednesday morning (01:30) when they host Libertad at the Estadio Mas Monumental.

River managed to earn a 2-1 win in Paraguay for the reverse fixture on April 25th and, as suggested in my River Plate vs Libertad prediction below, a similar result could well be on the cards for this rematch in Buenos Aires.

Team News

Starting with River Plate, the hosts will be without former West Ham United star Manuel Lanzini and Gonzalo Martinez due to injury.

The Argentine giants are also set to be without Ramiro Funes Mori as he is struggling with illness and Wednesday’s game is likely to come too soon for the former Everton defender.

As for the visitors, Libertad will have to do without veteran goalkeeper Martin Silva and winger Hector Villalba, who are both out injured ahead of the trip to the Argentine capital.

River Plate vs Libertad Odds

River Plate are the 1/3 favourites to come out on top in Wednesday’s encounter, giving them an implied win probability of 75%, whereas Libertad are 7/1, or a 12.5% chance, to cause a major upset at the Estadio Mas Monumental.

A draw for this one is available at 7/2, while another 2-1 win in favour of River Plate is currently 7/1.

River Plate to win & both teams to score @ 21/10

River have impressed in the Copa Libertadores so far this season, with three wins and a draw up until this point.

Uruguayan outfit Nacional are hot on their heels in Group H and will be looking to take advantage of any slip-up from River at the top of the pool.

However, dropped points don’t seem likely from a River Plate side that have lost just one of their last 13 home games in all competitions.

River keeping just two clean sheets in their last six games means Libertad might be able to get on the scoresheet once again on Wednesday night but the hosts should prove too strong at the Estadio Mas Monumental, where they have won eight of their last nine (8W, 1D) Copa Libertadores games.
