The Republic of Ireland welcome Switzerland to the AVIVA Stadium for an international friendly on Tuesday night (19:45). John O'Shea's side held Belgium to a goalless draw on Saturday and had some good chances, including a missed penalty from Evan Ferguson.

Switzerland were also involved in a goalless draw over the weekend as they faced Denmark in Copenhagen. We don't fancy there to be too many goals in this game going off those two matches. This is factored into our Republic of Ireland vs Switzerland predictions below which include match odds and team news.

Republic of Ireland vs Switzerland Betting Tips

  • Republic of Ireland to win @ 9/4
  • Under 2.5 goals @ 8/13

Match Odds

Ireland are 9/4 to take the victory in Dublin. A draw can be backed at 11/5, while Switzerland are 5/4 to grab the win. Both teams to score is on offer at 5/6, and this market has landed in seven of the Swiss' last ten friendlies. Over 2.5 goals is valued at 6/5.

Team News

Troy Parrott and Liam Scales were forced to withdraw from the Ireland squad due to injury. They were replaced by Ryan Manning and Under-21s duo Joe Hodge and Andy Moran. After finally making his debut at the weekend, Sammie Szmodics is likely to keep his spot in the starting lineup, aiding Chiedozie Ogbene in assisting Ferguson up front.

Dependable Swiss goalkeeper Yann Sommer has also been forced to withdraw from duty because of an injury. This has led to Borussia Monchengladbach shot-stopper Jonas Omlin getting called up in his stead. Fellow goalkeeper Gregor Kobel also had to bid adieu to his teammates as he returned to Borussia Dortmund for treatment on his own problem.

Republic of Ireland to win @ 9/4

Ferguson will be rueing his missed penalty at the weekend as that could've secured a massive confidence-boosting victory for the Boys in Green. Interim boss O'Shea will be pleased with what he saw from his players last time out and will be hoping for more of the same on Tuesday night.

Switzerland have quality which they will need to be wary about but after shutting out the Red Devils, they won't be fazed by their next opponents. That is why we think that they can edge this friendly, particularly because they had some good chances against Belgium.

More composure in the final third could have seen them score a couple. If they can fine-tune that for Switzerland then they can come away with an impressive victory.

Ireland to win at 9/4

Under 2.5 goals @ 8/13

However, even if the hosts do come away with the victory, we don't see it being by much. After both these two sides played out goalless draws at the weekend, it's fair to assume this encounter is going to be another low-scoring affair.

After all, five of Ireland's last seven matches have produced under 2.5 goals. It is also worth noting that under 2.5 goals has landed in the visitors' last four matches too. Right now, both these teams aren't exactly firing on all cylinders, but they both possess players who can make something happen. It just remains to be seen if it can happen on Tuesday to deliver a frantic game of football.

Under 2.5 goals at 8/13
