Rangers vs Queens Park Prediction: Bet on a Sunday stroll for the Bears at Ibrox

The race for Premiership points is put on the back burner this weekend to make way for the latest round of fixtures from the Scottish Cup. The fifth round brings followers eight intriguing fixtures played across the weekend, from Friday to Monday evening, with the best ties broadcast live on television.
Rangers host Queens Park at Ibrox on Sunday from 15:30 in a Glasgow derby live on Premier Sports 2, and the Premiership side are hot favourites at Betfred to progress to the next round. Our in form tipster, Frank Monkhouse, has landed followers some big price winners recently and aims for more of the same in his Scottish Cup special. Rangers manager Philippe Clement is expected to send out a much-changed side for Sunday’s Scottish Cup fixture against Championship opposition. The home team enter in excellent form, having secured a top-eight finish and a spot in the last 16 of the Europa League.
The Gers are also performing well in the Premiership and thrashed Ross County 4-0 here last weekend. They were 3-0 ahead by the break before taking their foot off the gas in the second 45. Fans, pundits, and the Betfred traders expect something similar here.
Queens Park make the short trip from Hampden to Ibrox, knowing they face a mammoth task in eliminating the locals. But the travelling support know anything is possible in this competition and take encouragement from how their side has performed at this level.
The Spiders booked their place in the fifth round and a money-spinning appearance at Ibrox thanks to a 3-2 win over Montrose in Glasgow. Sunday presents a much stiffer test, but will Queens Park ten-time Scottish Cup champions pull off a giant-killing?
As is so often the case in the Scottish Cup, a Premiership side plays at home against lower-league opposition, creating a lopsided betting market, especially in the match-winner. It’s no surprise to see Rangers priced like losing isn’t an option on Sunday, and despite the romance and unpredictability of cup competition, it’s difficult to argue with the traders here.
Rangers are 1/16 at Betfred, and it’s a similar story across the board. That quote will likely force bettors into the specials markets, where they’ll find some interesting options.
Despite winning this trophy ten times previously, Queens Park last got their hands on the silverware way back in 1893 and haven’t made it to a final since 1900. That’s a long time for the club’s loyal fanbase to wait, and the drought will likely rumble on for at least another season. Queens Park are underdogs to get their name in the hat for the next round.
Fancy the Scottish Cup working its magic and gifting the visitors a shock win at Ibrox? You can bet on Queens Park to win at 20/1 or try your luck on the draw at 8/1. Two attractive prices, but neither will attract much attention.
Rangers to win both halves
Sunday looks a case of how Rangers will win and how many they’ll score. Clement’s side won’t be at full strength, but the locals have enough to progress to the next round in convincing fashion. With the home win picked but the odds short, we play Rangers to win both halves at 7/10, and that’s worth a spot in your weekend accumulators.
Gers hammered Fraserburgh 5-0 here in the previous round, coasting to victory, and I expect something similar against Queens Park. A bet on Rangers to win both halves would’ve landed that day and it was also the correct approach when the hosts thumped Ross County in Govan last week. Follow Rangers to win both halves and hope they explode out of the traps to dominate their guests.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
Rangers 4-0 Queens Park
We have a bet at decent odds, but now we’re aiming for a big-price winner. Followers of my Scottish football predictions have enjoyed a fair share of correct score winners this season, including one on Celtic last weekend. With profits in our pockets, I’ll shoot for more of the same, playing the correct score market at Ibrox.
Rangers put four goals past Ross County last time, and the head-to-head stats show Gers hit four in two of their previous three meetings with Queens Park. The Gers beat the Spiders 4-0 at Ibrox and 4-1 at Hampden back in 2013.
Much has changed at both clubs since, but a 4-0 win would keep a smile on the home fans’ faces this weekend. Back Rangers 4-0 Queens Park at an exciting 6/1, which is more than enough to catch our eye.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
