Rangers ibrox stadium

Rangers host Hibs in the Scottish League Cup quarter finals at Ibrox on Saturday evening. Betfred’s Frank Monkhouse has put together his preview for the match and is siding with Rangers to continue their sluggish form.

Rangers vs Hibs Betting Tips

  • Double Chance (Hibs/Draw) @ 11/10
  • Hibs to win either half @ 6/4

*Odds correct as of the time of publication.

Rangers return to the scene of the crime after suffering a painful 2-0 defeat to Hearts last week in another horror show. Russell Martin’s team are much closer to the relegation zone than pole position, and have yet to secure victory in the Premiership.

Will the distraction of the League Cup quarter-finals help ease the pressure on a Gers side low on confidence?

Hibs watched on as Edinburgh rivals Hearts made light work of Rangers at this venue seven days ago. David Gray’s side sit third in the top tier, following a win and three draws.

They were involved in a six-goal thriller with Dundee United at Easter Road last time, and have already scored five more league goals than their hosts. Will they progress to Hampden?

Rangers vs Hibs Predicted Lineups

  • Rangers: Butland, Tavernier, Djiga, Souttar, Meghoma, Rothwell, Diomande, Gassama, Aasgaard, Antman, Miovski
  • Hibs: Smith, O'Hora, Bushiri, Iredale, C. Cadden, Mulligan, Levitt, N. Cadden, Boyle, McGrath, Bowie

Rangers vs Hibs Odds

The new Rangers regime is only a matter of months old, but the board at Ibrox is already under immense pressure to replace Martin and start again. The masses want him gone before he does any more damage. The former Southampton and Swansea coach looks out of his depth, playing a style that fans hate and players don’t understand, as the club stumbles from one embarrassment to the next.

Gers are yet to win a league match, suffering their worst start in almost 50 years. The home win won’t be too popular at odds of 8/11 with Betfred.

Unlike their hosts, Hibs are playing with confidence. They’re currently third in the Premiership, sitting seven points shy of joint leaders Celtic and Hearts. The team from the capital opened with a 2-1 win at Dens Park, before a run of three draws. They finished level with Kilmarnock, St Mirren and, most recently, Dundee United.

Hibs have had no problems finding the net domestically or in Europe, but they’re not yet reliable in defence, leaking seven goals in their previous three games. The away win is 10/3, with another draw at 3/1.

Rangers vs Hibs Stats

  • Rangers only victory so far this season was 4-2 over Alloa Athletic in the previous round.
  • Hibs are undefeated in the SPL through four games.
  • Rangers are currently 10th in the SPL with Hibs 3rd.

Double Chance (Hibs/Draw)

Our first pick in Saturday evening’s match at Ibrox sees us place our trust in the stats and trends. The stands in Govan won’t be anywhere near capacity, as the fans begin to vote with their feet.

Those who do make it along to this cup tie will be quick to turn on Martin and his players if they don’t hit the ground running. If Hibs take the lead, just like Hearts did last Saturday, the atmosphere will turn toxic, and that’s exactly what Gray’s men want to happen.

You’ll find our bet in the double chance market on the Betfred mobile app and website. If Hibs beat Rangers, you land a return, and if the match ends in a draw after 90 minutes, you’ll also see a profit hit your betting balance.

Each of Hibs' last three games has ended level. Gers drew four on the bounce before losing to Hearts last week. You can back Hibs in the double chance market as a single at a solid price or add it to your weekend accas.

Hibs win either half

Another prediction at strong odds is for Hibs to win either half on Saturday. It doesn’t matter if they win, lose, or draw the match. As long as they out-score their rivals in either the first 45 minutes or the second period of play, your bet wins. That means, even if Rangers start strongly and silence their critics, you’ll have another chance in the second half.

Focusing on their recent outings, the relegation-threatened Rangers lost both halves 1-0 against Hearts. They were thrashed 5-0 in the first half in Brugge, losing the second 1-0. St Mirren won the first half 1-0 in Paisley, and Brugge 3-0 at Ibrox. The list continues.

Rangers went into the break 1-0 down in Plzen, and lost the second half 1-0 at Fir Park. There’s an obvious lack of confidence and belief in the home dressing room just now, and Hibs have the quality to get their name in the hat for the next stage of the League Cup.
