Rangers vs Ayr United Betting Tips:

  • Back Rangers -2 on the handicap @ 4/6
  • Back Ross McCausland to score anytime @ 7/5

It’s the Fourth Round of the Scottish Cup on Saturday, with five games on the schedule. Rangers take a break from piling pressure on Old Firm rivals Celtic in the Scottish Premiership to host Championship side Ayr United at Ibrox.

The home team is the hot favourite with traders and pundits ahead of this mouth-watering clash, which is made all the more interesting by Scott Brown's return to Govan. The former Celtic captain is now manager of the Honest Men, and the Hoops icon would love nothing more than to dump Gers out of the competition, killing Philippe Clement’s hopes of a treble.

Will Rangers live up to expectations and secure a comfortable win, or will “Broonie” and his boys pull off a famous giant-killing? Have your say at Betfred.

Team News

Clement will make changes to the team that out-fought Aberdeen at this venue on Tuesday evening in the Premiership. The Belgian will use his squad in the midst of a fixture pile-up, handing fringe players an opportunity to impress against an opponent from the division below.

Having won the League Cup and dragged his team back into the title race, Phillipe is determined to build on a 4-1 away win achieved at Dumbarton in the previous round when John Lundstrum, Cyriel Dessers, James Tavernier, and Scott Wright were on the scoresheet.

Ayr United booked their place in the Scottish Cup Fourth Round with a 3-0 home win over lowly Kelty Hearts. The Honest Men arrive on the back of a mixed bag of results in the Championship, winning two, losing two, and drawing one of their last five games.

Ayr won 2-1 at home to Dundee United at the weekend, dragging them down to sixth in the division. It’ll take a herculean effort for the team from Somerset Park to get anything from Ibrox on Saturday evening under the lights in a game broadcast live on television.

Rangers vs Ayr United Odds

This game looks similar to the previous round when Rangers played Dumbarton, and it was a question of how many goals the Premiership title contenders would score.

Ayr United is a step up in class from the Sons, but it’s almost impossible to see them causing an upset at Ibrox against a team hitting its stride. But remember, this competition is renowned for shock results.

If you expect the home team to win comfortably, you won’t find too much to get excited about in the match-winner market. Betfred traders offer victory for Rangers at a cramped 1/20 with the draw 9/1. Fancy Ayr United to score one of the biggest wins in their history? Back the visitors at a chunky 22/1.

Rangers -2 @ 4/6

Predicting a strong Rangers win, we dive into the specials in search of something at a better price. Backing Rangers -2 on the handicap certainly isn’t a get-rich-quick scheme, but the 4/6 is good enough to back as a strong single or as part of your weekend accumulators.

Rangers -2 would’ve earned you a profit in the previous round against Dumbarton when the Gers scored four and could’ve had a few more. That win came in their first game back after the winter break, and a more polished performance is expected here.

Ayr United conceded three goals against Inverness and Greenock Morton last month, and that will encourage the Rangers attack.

McCausland to score @ 7/5

Ross McCausland has impressed in his breakthrough season at Ibrox. The young Northern Irish attacker has seized his opportunity with both hands. He’s fast becoming a fan favourite among the Ibrox faithful, who love his direct play, speed, bravery, and desire to get a shot off as often as possible.

McCausland came close to opening the scoring against Aberdeen at Ibrox on Tuesday, seeing his effort saved and slammed into the net on the rebound by Welsh winger Rabbi Matondo. He last scored at Ibrox in a 3-1 win over Kilmarnock, and he’s sure to get chances to add to his tally on Saturday.
