PSG vs Manchester City Prediction: Citizens to be spurred on by weekend display

Paris Saint-Germain have not enjoyed the new format of the Uefa Champions League so far, having managed just seven points from their first six matches of the league phase. Les Parisiens have won just one of their encounters at home and will find it hard to improve that statistic against Manchester City at Parc des Princes on Wednesday (20:00, TNT Sports 1).
The Citizens have only eight points themselves, so both have their work cut out in the final two gameweeks if they are to have any chance of qualifying directly to the knockout stage. Read on for my PSG vs Manchester City prediction, supported by the latest team news and match odds.
PSG are 7/5 to win this contest, but they have won just one of their three home ties to date.
Man City have won one of their three away trips to date, but they head here off the back of a ruthless 6-0 victory at Ipswich Town in the Premier League. They are 7/4, which has an implied probability of 36.4%, to take the three points, which does look enticing.
The Citizens have drawn two of their European matches so far, while PSG were held at home by PSV Eindhoven back in October, so the draw could be a tempting selection at 11/4 (26.7%).
Over 3.5 goals has struck in four of Man City's six league phase contests this term and is marketed at 11/8 for Wednesday.
Team News
PSG boss Luis Enrique will be nervous about missing defensive duo Achraf Hakimi and Marquinhos against the Premier League champions, with both players having missed all fixtures in January so far.
It's hoped that winger Ousmane Dembele will be able to return to the squad after missing the last two matches due to illness. Les Parisiens bolstered their attacking ranks by signing Khvicha Kvaratskhelia from Napoli this month, but the Georgian international is unable to feature in the league phase for his new club.
The wide player faces a tough task of forcing his way into the team anyway because of the form of the impressive Bradley Barcola. Desire Doue will be hoping to get the nod from his manager to lead the line ahead of Goncalo Ramos.
Nathan Ake was missing for Manchester City at Ipswich on Sunday because of another muscle problem, so he is doubtful to travel to Paris. With John Stones not being rushed back from his own injury issues, Ruben Dias and Manuel Akanji could partner each other in defence again.
Josko Gvardiol should continue in his hybrid role on the left side, while Rico Lewis could come in at right-back. Kyle Walker's absence from the squad is set to continue as he edges closer to a move to AC Milan on loan.
Pep Guardiola has made one signing so far in Abdukodir Khusanov, but like Kvaratskhelia, he will have to wait to feature in Europe until the knockout stage. Rodri remains out with his ACL problem but Oscar Bobb is back in training after recovering from a fractured leg.
Man City to win @ 7/4
City looked back to their best against Ipswich with a ruthless six-goal display and they have now won four of their last five games in all competitions. They will head to the French capital with confidence and will fancy themselves against a side who never seem to crack this competition.
There may be only a point between them but with Man City looking sharp again, they could wind up having too much for PSG to handle at Parc des Princes, leaving the hosts with work to do in their final fixture against VfB Stuttgart.
What was impressive from City at Ipswich was how fluid the performance was, as if we were watching them at the height of their powers in the Guardiola era. If they move the ball around like they did at the weekend, PSG could be in for another torrid night in Europe.
Phil Foden, last year's Premier League Player of the Season, looks to have finally arrived this campaign with five goals in his last three top flight appearances, while Kevin De Bruyne is back assisting regularly, having teed up four goals in the same stretch of games.
With these two finding form, it will be music to the ears of striker Erling Haaland, who feeds off their creative nous. Recent form suggests that this is set up for a statement Man City win.

Erling Haaland anytime goalscorer @ 21/20
After marking his first game since signing a new long-term contract at the Etihad Stadium with a goal, Haaland will want his fine form in the Champions League to continue. The Norwegian has netted five in six appearances so far and only three players have scored more than him in the competition.
The striker was taken off at Portman Road around the hour-mark on Sunday with victory wrapped up at 5-0, and Guardiola would have also wanted his star players to have a bit of a rest ahead of this crunch clash in Paris.
Haaland arrives here with four goals in as many games in the Premier League, and the added bonus of Foden and De Bruyne looking to have rediscovered their creative form. A goal from the big man feels inevitable on Wednesday.
