What a tie we have on our hands on Wednesday night. PSG host Liverpool in the Uefa Champions League quarter-finals as two European giants collide at the Parc des Prince (20:00, TNT Sports 1). Arne Slot’s team look destined to win the Premier League this season, but can they back that up with success on the continent?

Mo Salah to score
I’m playing things as safe as I can with this Bet Builder, with just three selections - all of which I think are likely to happen. Let’s start with a man who really needs no introduction, Mo Salah. The Liverpool man has been in sensational form this term, and 2024/25 could well end up being his most profitable season in a red shirt.
25 goals and 17 assists in 28 Premier League games so far, as well as a likely league title should land him his third PFA Player of the Year award - and deservedly so. Those numbers are absolutely insane, and the Egyptian is looking stronger and sharper than ever at the age of 32. His expiring contract is certainly a concern, but he could end with the biggest bang possible, and potentially even a Ballon d’Or.
- Mo Salah has 25 goals and 17 assists in 28 Premier League games so far
- Plus three goals and four assists in the Champions League
- He's averaging 3.08 shots per 90 in the Premier League
That’s how good Salah has been so far this season, while in the Champions League he has also produced three goals and four assists in seven appearances so far. If Liverpool are to be successful in Europe this term, they will be heavily reliant on Salah for goals. Slot just seems able to get the best out of him right now, and he could be the difference-maker between the Reds and PSG.
In the Premier League Salah is averaging 3.08 shots per 90, with 1.95 of those being on target. His conversion rate of 30.49% is very strong, and I think he will find the net in Paris.
Ousmane Dembele to score
He may not be quite at the productivity levels of Salah, but in the absence of PSG’s departed superstars Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar - it is Ousmane Dembele who has stepped up to the plate.
He has 18 goals in 22 Ligue 1 games this season which makes him the leading marksman in the division and his recent form in the UCL has also been very strong. He’s got six goals in eight games in total, but all of his goals have come in his last four appearances, including one against Manchester City at home.
- Ousmane Dembele has 18 goals in 22 Ligue 1 games
- Dembele has six goals in his last four UCL appearances
Now likely to play down the centre, we know Dembele’s two-footedness is going to cause serious problems. He is PSG’s biggest danger and Luis Enrique seems to have a well-balanced squad that can attack with fluiditiy and speed. They hammered Brest 10-0 on aggregate in the playoff round and alongside the likes of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Bradley Barcola, PSG have a brilliant attack but a functioning team on the whole.
They are now out of their ‘superstar era’, but they could do well in Europe. I think it’s sensible to back Dembele to find the net against a Liverpool defence that has creaked in recent weeks.
Alexis Mac Allister to get booked
This is a massively popular selection, which you may have read about on Betfred Insights in other pieces this season, but for good reason. Mac Allister is Liverpool’s dog in midfield, and that isn’t an insult at all. He’s the man that provides the bite in there, and has already picked up four yellows in the Champions League so far, a total no other player can beat in the competition this term.
- Alexis Mac Allister has four UCL yellow cards so far
- No player in the competition has more
He’s also got six yellows in the Premier League, but he’s averaging two fouls per yellow in Europe, which makes him the player to add to your Bet Builder here. PSG possess extreme pace and talented midfielders, which means Mac Allister is likely to have to make a few fouls in the French capital.
