PSG vs Atletico Madrid Bet Builder Tips: UCL hangover for PSG?

One of the standout clashes from the opening round of fixtures at the Club World Cup sees PSG take on Atletico Madrid at the Rose Bowl Stadium Stadium (20:00, DAZN). The newly-crowned champions of Europe are well-fancied heading to the United States of America, but can they add another trophy to their haul this season?

Double Chance: Draw or Atletico Madrid

I know PSG are the favourites to win this game and they are arguably the best team on the planet right now, but I’m going to side with Atletico Madrid to get something from this game. Luis Enrique’s men have experienced the ultimate high this season with that Champions League success, while they also scooped the Ligue 1 title and the French Cup in a famous treble. 

However, they will be without star forward Ousmane Dembele who will miss the group stage with a quad injury and he plays such a key role in their pressing game. Potentially the next Ballon d’Or winner, he will be a big absentee with Goncalo Ramos likely to replace him up top. Bradley Barcola is also struggling with a knee issue after a long campaign.

PSG Club World Cup Predictions

Atletico Madrid are coming off the back of a trophylesss season so far, in which they finished third in La Liga and failed to overcome Real Madrid in the Champions League, and Barcelona in the Copa del Rey. However, they are still a top side and they have so much talent going forward that they will cause problems.

Julian Alvarez, Antoine Griezmann and Alexander Sorloth are three elite forwards who have all scored plenty of goals this term, and Diego Simeone has turned his team into a more attacking outfit recently. However, we also know that his non-negotiables of hard work and effort haven't diminished and will also be on show here. I don’t like this match-up for PSG, despite their obvious quality. So I’ll back the Spanish side to secure at least a point in this opening game.

There should also be plenty of goals in this game, and I’m expecting both teams to find the net. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Desire Doue are two elite wingers, and PSG managed to score 92 goals in 34 league games this season, as well as recording the biggest winning margin in Champions League final history. 

I’ve already touched upon Atleti’s attacking quality, but they have also scored four goals in three of their last four outings, which makes them one of Europe’s most in-form attacks. Should be a cracking game. 

Julian Alvarez and Desire Doue to score

Let’s back two key goalscorers to find the net at any time on Sunday night. I could have picked Griezmann or Sorloth for Simeone’s men, but instead I’ve picked out Argentina’s World Cup winning striker, Alvarez. He started eight of the last nine La Liga matches and is a key cog for his manager and countryman, Simeone. 

Atletico Madrid Club World Cup Predictions

Alvarez has notched 29 goals in 54 appearances this season, averaging over one goal per game, so I’m happy to back him to find the net against PSG. Meanwhile, the man who scored twice in the Champions League final, Doue, has now turned 20. He racked up 15 goals and 16 assists for PSG this term and in truth, could do with a rest. However, with Dembele and Barcola out, he is unlikely to be benched. Given he should start, I think he’s the most likely PSG player to find the net.
