West Ham vs Manchester City Prediction: Irons can show strength on home turf

Goal difference is the only thing keeping West Ham United in the Premier League relegation zone right now. After beating Fulham, the Irons will look to take something from Manchester City, who head to the London Stadium on Saturday (20:00 GMT, TNT Sports 1).

Team News

West Ham are going to be without Crysencio Summervilles, who has been their star man in recent months, due to a calf injury. Oliver Scarles and Adama Traore are doubts for this clash because of knocks.

Lukasz Fabianski (back) is the other confirmed absentee for the hosts.

Josko Gvardiol (tibial fracture) remains sidelined for Man City but Mateo Kovacic is nearing a return to action from an ankle problem. Rico Lewis is also set to miss out on this game owing to an ankle issue of his own.

Erling Haaland has scored more goals against West Ham (11) than any other opponent in the Premier League and he is expected to lead the line for the visitors.

West Ham are seen as a 7/2 shot to win this match but they have won four of their past eight outings in the Premier League.

The Irons have drawn their previous two home fixtures in the league and the stalemate here is priced at 16/5 (implied probability of 23.8%).

Man City are the 7/10 favourites to collect the three points, as they have done in each of the last seven meetings.

This is the same price for Haaland to score anytime on Saturday.

This is a huge game for both teams. West Ham are fighting for survival at the bottom of the table, while City need to close the gap on league leaders Arsenal.

After a disappointing draw against Forest, it seemed like it was just a blip as City then went on to beat Newcastle in the FA Cup. However, their latest outing was even more of a concern as they were beaten 3-0 at Real Madrid in the first leg of their Uefa Champions League round of 16 tie.

Something doesn't seem quite right with Man City right now West Ham will look to profit from this situation. The Irons picked up an impressive win at Fulham and they are unbeaten in their previous three league appearances at the London Stadium.

Nuno Espirito Santo has made this team very competitive of late and while missing key figure Summerville is a blow, I believe the Hammers are more than capable of striking a blow to City's title hopes.

Man City are likely going to be a bit dejected following their defeat in Madrid on Wednesday, which is likely going to have just as much of an impact as fatigue on the stars who played the most minutes.

This is something West Ham will need to make the most out of in the early stages of the game. The Irons should be full of confidence because of their unbeaten run at home and recent matches have shown us they are capable of starting on the front foot.

The hosts have scored the opening goal in three of their previous four home outings in the Premier League. Interestingly, Man City head to east London having conceded the first goal in each of their past two outings across all competitions.

I think there is good value in covering West Ham to break the deadlock on Saturday.
