Manchester United travel to the Stadium of Light on Saturday afternoon (15:00 BST) to take on Sunderland, after securing Champions League football for next season with a 3-2 win over fierce rivals Liverpool last week.

The Red Devils defeated Sunderland 2-0 in the reverse fixture and Michael Carrick will be eager to do the double over the Black Cats here as his future in the dugout remains unclear. Read on for my Sunderland vs Manchester United predictions, as well as team news and the latest match odds.

Sunderland vs Manchester United Betting Tips

Team News

Daniel Ballard will begin his three-game suspension this weekend, so the Northern Irishman will be on the sidelines alongside Romaine Mundle and Nilson Angulo.

Bertrand Traore could return to the squad after taking part in training this week, while Granit Xhaka will start in the engine room alongside one of Noah Sadiki or Habib Diarra.

As for the visitors, Matthijs de Ligt remains on the treatment table, and Benjamin Sesko is a doubt with a shin issue he picked up in the victory over Liverpool.

Lisandro Martinez is available for selection again after serving a three-match ban of his own, and could replace Ayden Heaven in the backline to partner Harry Maguire.

Sunderland vs Manchester United Predicted Lineups

  • Sunderland: Roefs; Mukiele, Cirkin, Alderete, Reinildo; Xhaka, Sadiki; Hume, Le Fee, Talbi; Brobbey
  • Manchester United: Lammens; Dalot, Maguire, Martinez, Shaw; Casemiro, Mainoo; Mbeumo, Fernandes, Cunha; Sesko

Sunderland vs Manchester United Odds

The Black Cats are 3/1 to win on Saturday, the draw is 11/4 and United are 9/10 favourites, giving them an implied win probability of 52.6%.

Both teams to score - yes is 4/6, while over 2.5 goals is 8/11 to land. Bruno Fernandes is one assist away from equalling the all-time record of 20 for a Premier League season, and he can be backed to record an assist at 9/4.

Sunderland vs Manchester United Stats

  • No team has earned more points in the league since Michael Carrick's appointment as Manchester United interim manager in January (32)

Double Chance - Sunderland or Draw @ 10/11

Although Manchester United are in better form than Saturday's hosts, there could be a drop-off in intensity with Champions League football secured. In addition, Sesko is an injury doubt for the trip to the Stadium of Light so United could line up without a recognised number nine this weekend and suffer with a lack of firepower as a result.

Michael Carrick will want his side to finish as high as possible as bids to secure the United head coaching job for next term, and potentially beyond, but the Red Devils' best work has tend to come at Old Trafford, so I'm going to back the Sunderland or draw - double chance.

Bruno Fernandes to record an assist @ 21/10

Yes, I'm backing Bruno to equal the record on Saturday. The Portugal international came inches away from doing it against Liverpool, but Freddie Woodman got a hand to Fernandes' header before the ball bounced in off Sesko.

The 31-year-old had no goal involvements in the reverse fixture against the Black Cats, but his contributions have played a key role in United's revival under Carrick.

As well as his work from open play, Fernandes can easily turn provider to United's threats from set pieces this weekend - namely Casemiro and potentially Sesko if he features on Saturday.

United's talisman is actively looking to create and he's chasing history.
