The defending champions have opened as favourites, with our traders giving them a 40% chance of going back-to-back.
They won’t need extensive surgery in the transfer window, with an extra creative player to complement Saka on the left-hand side likely to be their top priority.
Defensively they’ve shown themselves to be a powerhouse and that is the rock on which their title winning season was built. If they can add some more quality from open play, they’ll be deservedly favourites.
No Pep, no problem according to our traders as they are still second-favourites to return to the summit.
In terms of a rounded squad, they are still the best in the league but they’ll no doubt splash more cash in the off-season to improve their chances. Rodri is being heavily linked with a summer departure, so a top quality defensive midfielder will be key. Erling Haaland is still the best striker in the league and if they can feed him, they’ll score plenty.
We are only a year removed from Liverpool’s dominant 2024/25 campaign but Arne Slot’s second term in charge has been wholly underwhelming.
Injuries haven’t helped with Alexander Isak playing only a few matches and Hugo Ekitete also absent after rupturing his achilles tendon. Virgil van Dijk doesn’t seem to be the player he once was and Mo Salah is on his way out the door. Another vital summer transfer window awaits.
If they are to seriously compete for the title, Florian Wirtz will have to produce the performances expected after a year of getting used to the Premier League and they need the Newcastle version of Isak to show up.
Will Michael Carrick perform better than Ole Gunnar Solskjaer now he’s got the job long-term? I expect so, the squad is better and in the final third, they have match winners.
Replacing Casemiro is a challenge as the Brazilian has been mightily impressive in recent months. Elliot Anderson is wanted by both Manchester clubs and if the England international does move to either, he’ll be a key cog.
There are still questions surrounding whether they are good enough defensively to mount a serious title challenge but for the first time since Jose Mourinho was in charge, they deserve to at least be mentioned.
Xabi Alonso is a top class manager but surely not even he can overhaul that squad in just a few months. Chelsea have been a bit of a joke club in recent years and their 2025/26 performances have been distinctly below par.
No doubt it’ll be another summer of change with players coming in and many leaving but to expect the Blues to be in the mix at the pointy end of the season seems fanciful.
Others @ 25/1 - 1500/1
Expecting another Leicester City to bubble up is arguably fanciful thinking. Aston Villa are next in the betting but with a Champions League campaign, the likelihood of them competing on multiple fronts is low.
Newcastle United look highly unlikely to sneak into a European spot on Sunday and that lack of midweek matches could assist them in challenging for a Champions League spot but to mention them as title contenders at this juncture feels like quite a stretch.
