Newcastle vs Nottingham Forest Prediction: Woltemade to add to Forest’s misery

Newcastle United will look to put last week's late heartbreak against Arsenal behind them as they host Nottingham Forest at St. James' Park in the Premier League on Sunday (14:00 BST, Sky Sports Main Event). The Magpies thumped Union Saint-Gilloise 4-0 in the Uefa Champions League in midweek.

Forest are winless in eight games across all competitions and fans are already calling for boss Ange Postecoglou to be sacked. Below you will find my Newcastle vs Nottingham Forest predictions, accompanied by the latest team news and match odds.

Newcastle vs Nottingham Forest Betting Tips

Team News

After being forced off against Arsenal with injury last week, Tino Livramento is set to miss the next six-to-eight weeks. Jacob Ramsey remains out with an ankle issue, while Yoane Wissa has suffered a setback with his knee problem as his wait to kick a ball for Newcastle continues.

Lewis Hall made an appearance from the bench in Belgium last time out and he may be restored to the starting lineup on Sunday. This would allow Dan Burn to move back to the left centre-back role, so Malick Thiaw may drop down to the bench.

Boss Eddie Howe is likely going to continue with Jacob Murphy on the right flank despite Anthony Elanga starting there in midweek.

The midfield trio of Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali and Joelinton is unlikely to be broken up.

Football Odds

Ola Aina and Douglas Luiz (both hamstring) remain absent for Forest.

Murillo was fit to start in Thursday's 3-2 defeat at home to Midtjylland in the Uefa Europa League and the Brazilian should maintain his place in the side on Tyneside.

With pressure mounting on Postecoglou, he needs his best players out on the pitch, so Morgan Gibbs-White is likely to operate as the number 10 instead of James McAtee, who started last week's defeat to Sunderland.

Newcastle vs Nottingham Forest Predicted Line-ups

  • Newcastle - Pope, Trippier, Botman, Burn, Hall; Guimaraes, Tonali, Joelinton; Murphy, Woltemade, Gordon
  • Nottingham Forest - Sels; Williams, Milenkovic, Murillo, Zinchenko; Dominguez, Anderson; Bakwa, Gibbs-White, Ndoye; Wood

Today's Football Fixtures

Newcastle vs Nottingham Forest Odds

Newcastle have won two of their last three home games in all competitions and they are 3/5 (implied probability of 62.5%) to claim the victory here.

The Magpies have drawn three of their six league outings this term and the stalemate is valued at 16/5.

Forest are 9/2 to pull off an upset but they are winless in their previous eight matches.

Over 2.5 goals has landed in the hosts' past three appearances in all competitions and this market is valued at 4/6 here.

Newcastle vs Nottingham Forest Stats

  • Newcastle have scored four goals in two of their last three games
  • No Premier League side has conceded more goals in all competitions than Forest (12) since Postecoglou took over
  • Nick Woltemade (NEW) has scored in his two home league appearances so far

Over 2.5 Newcastle goals @ 2/1

Given Forest's poor form, I'm fairly confident that Newcastle will win this contest, and I fancy them to rack up a few goals in the process.

Since Postecoglou took over at Forest, no Premier League side has conceded more goals (12) than the Tricky Trees in the six games he has overseen.

They haven't kept a single clean sheet and a defence that was strong and resolute for much of the 2024/25 season now looks fragile.

Newcastle haven't had the best start in the Premier League but they have enjoyed two games in recent weeks in which they have scored four goals. They have the attacking talent to put in another ruthless display against one of the worst defences in the division.

Nick Woltemade anytime goalscorer @ 6/5

One player who can further add to Forest's defensive woes is Newcastle forward Nick Woltemade, who is settling in nicely on Tyneside. The striker has four goals in his first nine competitive appearances for the Magpies, with two coming in three Premier League matches.

Those two strikes both came on home soil against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Arsenal, with both goals being headers. He is already showing the danger he poses from set-pieces and crossing situations, and in Forest's current state it wouldn't be surprising to see him score with his head again.

You will find a more enticing price of 13/2 for the German attacker to score via this method on Sunday.
