Newcastle vs Burnley Prediction: Clarets set for misery on Tyneside

Newcastle United were left disappointed as they suffered a late equaliser at home to Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League in midweek. The Magpies are in action at St. James' Park again on Saturday (15:00 GMT) as they host struggling Burnley, who have lost five in a row in the top flight.

Below are my Newcastle vs Burnley predictions, surrounded by the latest match odds and team news.

Team News

Newcastle still have quite a number of players unavailable at this moment in time. Will Osula (ankle), Nick Pope (groin), Sven Botman (back), Emil Krafth (knee) and Kieran Trippier (hamstring) are all ruled out.

Sandro Tonali picked up a knock against Spurs and he will need to be assessed ahead of the weekend.

Yoane Wissa is thought to be nearing fitness to be in contention to make his club debut.

Boss Eddie Howe will just be pleased that he has two recognised full-backs available in Lewis Hall and Tino Livramento.

Premier League Odds

Zeki Amoundi, Connor Roberts (both knee) and Jordan Beyer (thigh) are sidelined for Burnley, while Axel Tuanzebe faces a few weeks out with an unspecified issue - putting his Africa Cup of Nations chances in doubt with DR Congo.

Hjalmar Ekdal is set to partner Maxime Esteve in defence for the Clarets as a result.

Following five straight defeats in the league, Scott Parker must decide to either persist with Lyle Foster and Zian Flemming in attack, or add an extra midfielder or defender into the side.

Newcastle are the 2/7 favourites to win this clash and they have won two of their last three league games. There have been goals at both ends in the Magpies' past seven outings in the top flight so adding BTTS - Yes to the selection generates an appealing 15/8 (implied probability of 34.8%) price.

The hosts were held to a draw here in midweek against Spurs and the stalemate is available at 9/2. Burnley are 10/1 to spring a surprise but they are on a losing run of five games in the league.

It's been a while since Newcastle posted a clean sheet in the Premier League but I think this seems like a good time for them to record one. BTTS - Yes has landed in each of their last seven games in the top flight, of which three of were won by the Magpies.

They are three unbeaten heading into Saturday and they will be hoping that they are starting to push on now, which cannot be said for Burnley who are looking to end their five-game losing streak.

The Clarets have failed to score in three of those matches, and Newcastle do tend to be strong defensively at home - even though it hasn't been the case for much of the season so far.

The important thing here is that the hosts have momentum and confidence, which the visitors don't. I am predicting Burnley to suffer more misery here and I do think Newcastle are worth backing to win to nil.

Anytime Goalscorer - Nick Woltemade @ 5/6

Nick Woltemade has been a shrewd business by Newcastle. It may only be a few months after he joined but he has been quite effective in attack for the Magpies, and he is doing a lot better than the man he replaced - he who must not be named (or Alexander Isak), who has not had the best start to life following a record transfer to Liverpool.

Woltemade has already delivered five goals in his first 11 Premier League matches and three of them have come at St. James' Park. For a big man, he is quite nimble with the ball at his feet, while he is also a big threat aerially when the ball is whipped into the box.

The German international is coming up against a team low on confidence and I do think he can profit against the Clarets on Saturday.
