Aston Villa can close the gap on Arsenal to four points at the top of the Premier League with a victory over Newcastle at St James' Park on Sunday, but the Magpies could prove tough to crack on home turf.

The Magpies will be buoyed by their comfortable 3-0 success over PSV in the Champions League on Wednesday night, but there may be more work for Eddie Howe's side in a 10/1 bet builder. Below you can find my Newcastle vs Aston Villa Stats-Based Bet Builder Tips.

Draw

Newcastle have lost only two Premier League matches at St James' Park all season and the Magpies have been beaten only once in their last seven games.

However, Howe's men take on title-chasing Villa and it would be no surprise if two good teams cancelled each other out.

Villa have scored just three goals in their last four matches and those contests have ended with scorelines of 0-0, 2-1, 1-0 and 1-0.

Unai Emery's men have hit just 15 shots on target in their previous four Premier League matches and the lack of attacking output has to be a concern for Villans backers.

Newcastle crushed PSV 3-0 in midweek, but they hit only four shots on target and the Dutch side put in an abysmal effort.

Newcastle played out a 0-0 draw with Wolves prior to Wednesday's win and the Magpies also failed to find the net in a 2-0 League Cup semi-final first-leg loss to Manchester City.

There doesn't look a great deal between these two teams, and with goalscoring a concern for both sides, playing the draw could reap rewards.

Today's Football Fixtures

Under 2.5 goals

Newcastle can be a dangerous attacking unit, but that is generally the case against weaker teams.

The Magpies played out a 0-0 draw against Villa earlier in the campaign, they scored only one goal in a 2-1 loss to Arsenal and Howe's side failed to find the net in recent defeats to Manchester United and Man City.

Striker Nick Woltemade has failed to score in any of his last eight appearances for Newcastle, fellow forward Yoane Wissa has hit only two Premier League goals all season, while Anthony Elanga and Jacob Ramsey can't hold down a starting position.

Villa have allowed only three goals in their last five matches and Unai Emery may take a pragmatic approach at St James’ Park. Under 2.5 goals rates a solid wager.

Tonali to be shown a card

Sandro Tonali has been booked in each of his last three appearances for Newcastle and the Italian has a total of five yellows in his last 11 games for the Magpies.

The 25-year-old's usual midfield partner Bruno Guimaraes has picked up an injury, meaning Tonali will have to cover more ground and take on a greater share of defensive work and that could land the committed midfielder in trouble again.
