Liverpool vs Tottenham Prediction: Reds set for a comfortable victory

It has been a mixed bag in terms of Liverpool’s output these past couple of weeks. Two meetings with Wolves, not hungry enough when playing for Premier League points. Good enough to progress in the FA Cup last Friday, Champions League progress against Galatasaray still in the balance.

Even their mixed bag is better than Tottenham’s offering under Igor Tudor. The interim boss may see his remit shortened in the next few days. No new manager bounce to lift the spirits at Spurs, if anything the Croat has made things worse since his arrival. The less said about Tuesday’s goalkeeper selection policy the better.

Team News

After missing out on Liverpool’s Champions League defeat to Galatasaray in midweek, Allison is expected to return to goalkeeping duties on Sunday. Manager Arne Slot confirming that the Brazilian shot stopper has returned to training after suffering a bout discomfort just a few days ago.

No further discomfort across the rest of the Liverpool team and from an outfield perspective, the remaining 10 players pretty much pick themselves. The versatile Dominik Szoboszlai expected to play in a more usual attacking midfield role. No longer needed defensively due to Jeremie Frimpong resuming duties at right back.

Liverpool vs Tottenham Predicted Lineups

  • Liverpool: Allisson; Frimpong, van Dijk, Konate, Kerkez; Mac Allister, Gravenberch; Salah, Szoboszlai, Gakpo; Etikite
  • Tottenham: Vicario; Danso; Dragusin, Porro; Gray, Sarr, Gallagher, Spence; Richarlison, Tel; Solanke

As for Tottenham, it really is a case of if you are fit, you are in. Igor Tudor’s woes continue after his mauling in Madrid, It may even be difficult to name a starting eleven for Sunday due to Conor Gallagher reportedly suffering from illness – he may need a painkiller just to make up the numbers.

Not in Sunday’s number is defender Micky van de Ven. The Dutch international received his marching orders in the recent home league defeat to Crystal Palace. He is one of 12 senior professional Spurs players on the sidelines for the trip to Merseyside, rumours that fans may be asked to play at Anfield yet to be verified.

 Liverpool vs Tottenham Stats

  • Tottenham have not won any of their last 11 Premier League matches
  • Liverpool have scored at least four goals in their last four home matches against Tottenham in all competitions

Liverpool -2 handicap @ 13/8

With a home win being as short as 2/7 at the time of writing, you would be mad to suggest anything other than a Liverpool win on Sunday. Not a case of whether Arne Slot’s men pick up maximum points at Anfield, more a case of how big the winning margin and this is where my focus is fixated.

With just how woeful Tottenham’s defence has been since Igor’s installation, a fifth successive defeat in all competitions could lead to a Tudor execution. Therefore, even with a virtual head start of two goals for the visitors, I still think Liverpool can cover the handicap with at least a three-goal winning margin.

Over 3.5 Goals @ 1/1

Which ties into my next bet and with this game already known for its recent litany of goals, the fact that Tottenham have been nothing short of shambolic these past few weeks only gives further credence for the direction I am planning on going in.

Only one of Tottenham’s last four defeats have ended with less than 3.5 goals in total – even the outlier of the quartet was their 2-1 reverse at Fulham and as bad as they are in defence, they are still able to offer something going forward. A mere consolation will certainly help the cause as I look for at least a quartet of goals at Anfield.
