Another international break behind us, the Premier League back on centre stage for the next few weeks at least and with Liverpool playing host to Manchester United on Sunday, it is Anfield that will host this weekend’s main-event.  

The defending champions no longer defending top spot in the division after a bumpy pair of results. Their local rivals struggling to get anything in the way of consistency under manager Ruben Amorim. Team News  

Although player fitness is always a concern for managers at the best of times, those concerns increase tenfold during the international break. The last thing any coach wants to see is an injury when talent is temporarily elsewhere, unfortunately this has a tendency of happening all too often. 

A scenario that has Liverpool manager Arne Slot sweating on the fitness of Ryan Gravenberch after he only lasted 45 minutes in the Netherlands' recent 4-0 win over Finland. Should the former Bayern Munich talent fail to win the fitness race, Dominik Szoboszlai will be tasked with a central midfield berth instead. 

As for Manchester United, they have no major injury concerns before the trip to Anfield on Sunday. This means manager Ruben Amorim is set to start all three of his summer attacking signings with Benjamin Sesko once again leading the line in the search for his third league goal of the season. 

This also means that recent signing Senne Lammens will continue in between the sticks and although he is almost there by default after the performances of Altay Bayındır before him, the short trip from Manchester to Liverpool should give the Belgian his first true test in United colours.

Liverpool vs Manchester United Odds

Liverpool are priced as favourites at 8/13 to win this game, with Manchester United find themselves as outsiders at 4/1. That gives the home team an implied win probability of 61.9% while a draw can be backed at 7/2. 

BTTS has been priced at 1/2 and over 2.5 goals is 4/9, while Alexander Isak and Mo Salah are the joint favourites to score first at 4/1.  

Liverpool to win 2-1 @ 7/1 

With Arsenal's upcoming run of fixtures looking far simpler than their recent duels with both Liverpool and Manchester City, they will find themselves in a near ideal position to protect their newfound standing at the top of the Premier League. 

Liverpool cannot afford to drop further points after defeats to Chelsea and Crystal Palace and I think a week to reset will have done Arne Slot and his players the world of good. With that said, their susceptibility in defence could well be on show this Sunday and with both teams to score priced at almost a given, I have given Liverpool the edge in a narrow 2-1 win. 

Mohamed Salah to score anytime @ 1/1 

Although hindsight in football is a wonderful thing, one wonders if offering Mohamed Salah a new contract at Liverpool will actually turn out to be a good thing. We have seen previous examples of players having a sharp decline after inking new terms, the Egyptian may be showing signs himself. 

Which is perhaps counterintuitive thinking when it comes to this tip but although Salah's performances have not been close to the level of last season, it does also suggest that he is due a return to the scoresheet. He usually saves his best for the visit of Manchester United and odds of 1/1 to score is the best outcome for me.
