Leeds vs Brentford Prediction: The Bees can sting the precarious Whites

Leeds United welcome Brentford to Elland Road in the Premier League (20:00 GMT, Sky Sports Main Event/Premier League) with work to do to secure their survival. The Yorkshire club probably wouldn’t choose to play a Bees side unbeaten in their last four away games under such circumstances. Such is life at the sharp end of the semi-self-declared ‘best league in the world’.

Team News

Daniel Farke has a full squad to pick from on the fitness front, with no injury concerns heading into this home tie. But Leeds will be without the suspended Gabriel Gudmundsson, who picked up a red card in the 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace.

Brentford have a number of casualties ahead of this clash. Vitaly Janelt is out with an ankle injury while Aaron Hickey and Rico Henry are sidelined with thigh problems. There’s a trio of knee injuries for Fabio Carvalho, Antoni Milambo and Josh Dasilva.

Leeds vs Brentford Predicted Lineups

  • Leeds: Darlow; Rodon, Bijol, Struijk; Bogle, Longstaff, Ampadu, Justin; Stach, Aaronson; Calvert-Lewin
  • Brentford: Kelleher; Kayode, Van den Berg, Collins, Lewis-Potter; Yarmolyuk, Henderson; Ouattara, Jensen, Schade; Thiago

Leeds vs Brentford Odds

Leeds are narrow favourites here, priced at 6/4 while their opposition is at 7/4. The draw is on the market at 5/2.

Top of the pops for first goalscorer are Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Igor Thiago. Both sharp-shooters are 4/1 to bag first.

 Leeds vs Brentford Stats

  • Leeds have not scored a Premier League goal in their last three matches
  • Only Erling Haaland (22) has scored more Premier League goals than Igor Thiago this season. The Brentford striker’s 19 goals would have been enough to win the PL Golden Boot in seven previous seasons

Brentford to win @ 7/4

Leeds are on a poor run, particularly at home. The Whites have lost three of their last four at Elland Road, albeit they had to endure visits from Arsenal and Manchester City.

Meanwhile, Brentford have made several away grounds feel like home. Keith Andrews’ men have gone unbeaten in their last four on the road, with three victories.

I fancy the Bees to feed off that buzz here. Leeds haven’t won in five games as they begin to creak under the Premier League pressure.

Brentford are accustomed to this division and its idiosyncrasies by now. Sitting in seventh and with a European punt underway, I reckon Brentford take this one.

Under 2.5 total goals @ 5/6

Despite their poor form, Leeds haven’t conceded a lot of goals in recent weeks. Chelsea are the only team to score more than one goal against Farke’s side in their last five outings. Leeds limited Man City to a single goal when Pep Guardiola’s champions rocked up to Elland Road.

Leeds don’t concede many, but they don’t score many either. Over the same five-game spell they’ve slotted home just three goals. Two of those came in a 2-2 draw with Chelsea.

Brentford have only scored more than two goals once in their last five matches. I reckon they’ll do a professional job without a rout breaking out. 1-0 or 2-0 for the Bees.
