Chelsea vs spurs prediction and betting tips

Chelsea’s attempt to gain European football next season took an almighty dent on Saturday after the Blues lost the FA Cup final at the hands of Manchester City. Now Calum McFarlane’s penultimate act before the arrival of Xabi Alonso as manager is to keep the club in the continental hunt. Sky Sports for this one with kick-off set for 8:15PM.

Saturday may have been an official cup final, Chelsea supporters will deem the visit of struggling Spurs as theirs and with Roberto De Zerbi’s men now agonisingly close to the finishing line, they must make sure they do not collapse across both their midweek and weekend league calendar dates. Dan Tracey provides us with his Chelsea vs Tottenham Hotspur Predictions...

Team News

It is not necessarily a personnel decision that Caulm McFarlane has to make before Tuesday, instead it will be formation that takes up the Chelsea interim manager's thoughts. Although it was a back four in the recent 1-1 draw at Liverpool, that shape morphed into three central defenders at the weekend.

Should McFarlane decide to revert to the plan that saw Chelsea secure a point at Anfield 10 days ago, the pairing in central defence should be Wesley Fofana and Levi Colwill and with the latter trying to boost his fitness before the World Cup, a strong showing against Spurs could lead him to being one of Thomas Tuchel's selection wildcards.

As for Tottenham, there are no new injuries for manager Roberto De Zerbi to be concerned about - even if the existing list does make for rather uncomfortable reading. This means the same starting eleven that took to the field against Leeds last Monday will now be tasked with getting Spurs over the relegation line.

Which means Antonin Kinsky will be in between the posts and although his confidence took an almighty battering in Madrid a couple of months ago, the Czech stopper was undoubtedly the hero at the start of last week. His save making sure Tottenham earned a point against Leeds, the same outcome would be enough for survival on Tuesday.

Chelsea vs Tottenham Hotspur Predicted Lineups

  • Chelsea: Sanchez, Gusto, Fofana, Colwill, Cucurella, James, Caicedo, Palmer, Fernandez, Neto, Pedro
  • Tottenham Hotspur: Kinsky, Porro, Danso, Van de Ven, Udogie, Palhinha, Bentancur, Kolo Muani, Gallagher, Tel, Richarlison

Match Odds:

Chelsea are priced as the favourites at 21/20 to win this game, with Tottenham the relative underdogs at 23/10. That gives the home team an implied win probability of 48.8% while a draw can be backed at 11/4.

BTTS has been priced at 8/15 and over 2.5 goals is 8/13, while Joao Pedro is the favourite to score first at 4/1.

Tottenham To Win @ 23/10

Chelsea may have won the Conference League last season but the club's board will have to ask themselves whether they really want to be back in the same competition next season. Is any European football better than none? Maybe, maybe not and for this reason, I think Spurs can pounce on such indecision.

No win in seven league games for the Blues, Tottenham unbeaten in their last four having picked up eight points from the 12 that have been on offer. Add the fact that West Ham's loss at Newcastle will have been a huge confidence boost and I see Spurs getting the better of a Chelsea side that just want this season to end.

Richarlison to score anytime @ 7/4

Often maligned, rarely understood. The criteria that can make you a cult hero within a football club and when you look at a player such as Richarlison, it is fair to say that the Tottenham forward has not always been universally praised. However, a goal on Tuesday will do his popularity rating no harm.

The Brazilian forward has scored 10 goals this season – more than double any other Tottenham player and with the 29-year-old now taking on the role of talisman, I am backing him to repeat what he did in Spurs' previous away league outing. A goal on the road to help his side come out on top.
