Burnley vs Aston Villa Prediction: Can Villa keep that winning feeling?

Aston Villa made it to the Europa League final on Thursday night with a thumping 4-0 success over Nottingham Forest, and victory against Freiburg will mean they are playing Champions League football next term.
However, they will want to get the three points they need to go within goal difference of securing a top-five finish, guaranteeing them a spot at Europe’s top table no matter the result in the Europa League final. Next up, on Sunday, they travel to face Burnley (2pm BST, Sky Sports+), and below you can find my Burnley vs Aston Villa predictions.

Team News
Burnley’s injury issues remain ongoing, with Josh Cullen (knee), Connor Roberts (Achilles) and Jordan Beyer (hamstring) all still out.
Zian Flemming should start up front again for the already-relegated Clarets, while Hannibal Mejbri may start in place of Josh Laurent in midfield.
Unai Emery will surely make some changes to the side that battered Forest on Thursday, with Ollie Watkins, Emi Buendia and John McGinn the likely candidates to be on the bench.
Jadon Sancho, Tammy Abraham and Leon Bailey should all come into the starting XI.
Burnley vs Aston Villa Predicted Lineups
- Burnley - Dubravka; Walker, Ekdal, Esteve, Hartman; Humphreys, Mejbri, Ward-Prowse; Tchaouna, Flemming, Anthony
- Aston Villa - Martinez; Cash, Lindelof, Mings, Maatsen; Bogarde, Tielemans; Sancho, Barkley, Bailey; Abraham
Burnley are 9/2 to win this game, a draw is 3/1 and an Aston Villa victory is priced at 3/5. That gives the Villans an implied win probability of 62%, while over 2.5 goals is 8/11, and BTTS is 4/5.
Abraham is the favourite to score first at 7/2, while Watkins is 5/4 to find the net at anytime.
Burnley vs Aston Villa Stats
- Burnley have lost five in a row
- Hannibal Mejbri has been booked eight times this season
Aston Villa to win to nil @ 13/8
I know that many punters will be tempted to back a rare Burnley win given Villa’s Thursday night exploits, but I’m going the other way. Football teams at this stage of the season tend to flourish when they are playing in games without pressure.
Coventry ran away with the Championship title having got promoted at Blackburn Rovers, while Arsenal look to have recovered from their blip in emphatic fashion. Villa had so much riding on that Europa League semi, and now they have won, I can see them going to Turf Moor and winning comfortably.
Burnley have lost their last five games in a row, and although Villa should rotate, their squad is still top class and we shouldn’t see too much of a drop off in standards. Their Europa League final isn’t until 20 May, so we can expect a decent showing here.

Hannibal Mejbri to get carded @ 15/8
Back fit after his hamstring injury, I’d expect Hannibal to start here and be his usual combative self. He’s been booked eight times in 24 league games this season, picking up three in his last seven to boot.
I’d expect Burnley to be without the ball a lot, so am happy to back Hannibal to get booked once more.
