The Bees welcome a Manchester City side that eventually made light work of Burnley last Saturday but also were denied a Champions League win by Monaco in midweek. A late Eric Dier penalty meaning the points were shared in Europe, Pep Guardiola and his players can ill afford the same against Brentford.

Brentford boss Keith Andrews opted for a 4-2-3-1 shape in last Saturday’s home demolition of Manchester United but the former Irish international could be tempted to bring in another defender in the Bees’ bid to halt Manchester City’s recent progress up the Premier League table.

Should that be the case, then Dango Ouattara is the one who may have to give his place up in the starting eleven. A back five that now consists of Ethan Pinnock added to central defence and either Keane Lewis-Potter or Aaron Hickey at left back will sit behind a midfield three containing Jordan Henderson.

Although John Stones and Bernardo Silva were given starting duties against Monaco on Wednesday, City boss Pep Guardiola will once again look to rotate his personnel before the trip to Brentford. As a consequence of this, the England defender and Portugal forward look set to be on the bench.

Replacing Stones at right back is Matheus Nunes, while positioned ahead of the Brazilian will be winger Savinho. Apart from those two changes, the remaining nine that started on Wednesday will once again be tasked with picking up another Premier League victory to make it three wins from four.

They make the trip to the capital as favourites and although this comes as no real surprise, it does not offer a great deal in the way of value either. However, one thing to note is that City have only kept three clean sheets from their first six league outings and they may have to sacrifice a clean sheet before collecting all three points.

Ignoring Erling Haaland’s three goals at the summer’s FIFA Club World Cup, the Norwegian hitman has scored 11 goals for Manchester City in all club competitions this season. Not only has he been a constant name on the scoresheet for club but he has also scored nine goals for his country in World Cup qualifiers.

Whisper it quietly but it looks like the version of Haaland that bulldozed through the Premier League in his first season at the club is back and with him opening the scoring away at Arsenal recently, I fancy more of the same when he returns to the capital on Sunday – especially as the odds that are currently on offer.
