Hugo Ekitike to score

I don’t think there is any value in backing Liverpool to win this game, especially given their dodgy results of late, so I’m steering clear of a prediction of that type. Instead, I’m focusing on goals and goalscorers as this looks as though it should be an open and entertaining encounter between two teams that have plenty of quality in attack. 

Let’s start with Hugo Ekitike, who had been unfortunate to lose his place in the Liverpool attack after a flying start to the season. Arne Slot has to work out whether starting his £125m signing from Newcastle, Alexander Isak, with Ekitike, or whether it’s one or the other. Perhaps fortunately for the Dutch boss in some sense, his mind has been made up for him with Isak’s latest groin issue. 

It means Ekitike will lead the line once again having scored three goals in five Premier League starts this term. He’s got six in 12 so far in a Liverpool shirt and I think the Reds look far better with him up front than Isak right now. If he finds the net again, he could make that starting spot his own after a sluggish start for the most expensive player in English football history.

Igor Thiago to score 

He might not have cost £125m, but Brentford have uncovered another gem in Igor Thiago. Six goals in nine matches so far for the Bees in 2025/26 is seriously impressive and he’s been a wonderful focal point for Keith Andrews to build around. 

He scored last time out at West Ham and had another narrowly ruled out thanks to VAR, but he’s proving himself to be a constant threat. He’s had nine shots on target and 18 shots in total so isn’t afraid to get his shots off and up against a Liverpool defence that has conceded two goals in each of their last three league games - he should be able to continue his fine goalscoring form. 

Over 9.5 corners

Brentford have been direct this season and on average, their games have had 9.75 corners this term. Liverpool, by comparison, have seen 10.73 corners per 90 this season in their fixtures, winning 5.63 of those.
