Premier League Top Goalscorer Odds: Hard to look past Haaland

The brand new Premier League season is nearly upon us, with Manchester United and Fulham opening the 2024/25 campaign on Friday night at Old Trafford.

The top goalscorer market is a favourite amongst punters, along with the league outright, relegation and top-four finish. Below I take a look at the current favourites to win the Golden Boot in the top flight this season, as per Betfred's Premier League top goalscorer odds list.

Erling Haaland @ 8/13

Erling Haaland made it back-to-back golden boots last season, and the Norwegian remains the clear favourite to win the Golden Boot once again to make it three in a row.

After scoring a record-breaking 36 goals in his maiden Premier League season, Haaland claimed his second successive top goalscorer trophy by netting 27 goals en-route to Manchester City’s fourth top-flight title in a row. That means the former Borussia Dortmund striker has scored 63 Premier League goals in 66 outings across the past two seasons - a goal tally that has never been matched by any other player across their first two seasons in the English top-flight.

The Norwegian international will now be aiming to join an elite club that includes both Alan Shearer and Thierry Henry by becoming only the third player in history to pocket the Premier League Golden Boot prize three years in a row.

Mohamed Salah @ 10/1

Another regular name in the top goalscorer market is Mohamed Salah.

The Egypt international had a fairly quiet season last term by his standards, but still managed to score 18 Premier League goals.

He has hit 20+ goals in four different seasons in the past so there’s no reason he can’t keep pace with Haaland provided he stays fit. The big question over Salah's output this year is whether Arne Slot's system benefits him like Jurgen Klopp's used to.

10/1 seems a big price for a goalscorer as reliable as Liverpool's number 11, who's won the top goalscorer award on three occasions during his time on Merseyside.

Alexander Isak @ 12/1

Fresh off the back of a brilliant season with Newcastle, Alexander Isak looks poised to have another fruitful campaign at St. James' Park.

The Swedish striker managed to net 21 times last season, to follow up his 10 goals in 27 appearances during his first Premier League campaign. Breaking the 20-goal barrier last season also meant Isak became the first Newcastle player to score 20+ in a single top-flight season since club legend Shearer, which is sure to go down well with the Toon Army faithful.

Isak came alive during the back-end of last year, scoring 11 in his final 12 appearances of the season, and if he's to keep pace with the likes of Haaland and Salah, he'll need to have a more consistent output across the campaign.

Nevertheless, the hot streak he enjoyed at the end of 2023/24 means he should enter the new season full of confidence.

Ollie Watkins @ 16/1

Next in the betting, and probably one you'd consider to be an outsider is Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins.

Watkins fired Villa to Champions League qualification and made a huge impact in England’s run to the Euro 2024 final this summer, scoring the winner in the semi-final against the Netherlands.

The 28-year-old scored 19 times last year, which was only bettered by Haaland, Isak and Cole Palmer, and if Villa can repeat that success, then Watkins has a good chance of challenging for the Golden Boot.
