Premier League Odds: Liverpool now ODDS-ON to win title after Man City success

Pep Guardiola responded to Liverpool fans chanting “You’re getting sacked in the morning” by holding up six fingers, in reference to the six Premier League titles he has won with Manchester City to date. But that seems incredibly unlikely to become seven in May as the Citizens lost 2-0 at Anfield, meaning they have now lost six of their last seven games in all competitions, and four in a row in the Premier League.
It’s an unprecedented run for Guardiola and in terms of reigning champions, only the Leicester City side of 2016/17 have recorded a longer run of consecutive defeats than Manchester City now have. Below we take a look at the Premier League Odds to win the title, as Liverpool become the odds-on favourites with Betfred.
Premier League Winners Odds
Liverpool @ 4/7
Now odds-on favourites to win the Premier League title this season, Liverpool currently sit top of the table and hold a nine-point lead over their nearest rivals. It’s been a stunning season so far for Arne Slot, and he is making this management lark look so easy, having won 11, drawn one and lost just once in the league so far.
Most spectators thought there would be a drop off after the exit of Jurgen Klopp, but instead the Reds have kicked on and taken advantage of the points that both Arsenal and Manchester City have dropped this term. With Mohamed Salah on top form, and the midfielders such as Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister stepping up to the plate, the sky is the limit for this team.
However, I don’t think this is a done deal quite yet - as the odds may suggest. We still have 25 matches to play in this Premier League season and a nine-point lead could evaporate rapidly over the packed Christmas schedule. I think there’s a long way to go, but Liverpool have started better than we could have imagined under their new boss.

Arsenal @ 11/4
The Gunners have stuttered slightly this term, but this week they seem to have clicked into gear. They scored five goals away at Sporting CP, before also hitting five past West Ham United, to put themselves up into second place ahead of a key midweek clash against Manchester United.
Now, Arsenal have proven themselves to be pretty sturdy title contenders under Mikel Arteta over the past two seasons, and perhaps it will suit them to be the chasers over the Christmas period. They have already proven that they can go toe-to-toe with Liverpool as they drew 2-2 earlier in the season, and the two are set to meet at Anfield at the start of May in what could be a title decider.
Unlike Man City, I think Arsenal have the depth to cope with injuries, and I don’t think they are as reliant on individuals as City are - and we have seen how they have struggled without the influential Rodri. They are still in this race.

Manchester City @ 7/1
Getting a price of 7/1 on Manchester City to win any Premier League title under Guardiola feels like exceptional value. I know they are in dreadful form, and there are clearly some issues to solve in terms of Rodri’s replacement, but I still wouldn’t rule them out completely. They are now 11 points off Liverpool and that is a big gap, but given the winning runs we have seen City go on over the winter, it’s not unbreachable.
Kevin De Bruyne is coming back to fitness, Erling Haaland is still a top striker and if they can sort the defensive issues, they should be able to pick up points. Do I think they are going to win the league this season? No. But this is still good value on the reigning champions to make it five in a row.

Chelsea @ 16/1
After a big home win vs Aston Villa, the question as to whether Chelsea are in the title race was posed to Enzo Maresca. "No, I said it many times," answered the former Leicester City boss. He went on: "I really like the pressure. I'd like to say: 'Yes, we're there', but we're not there.
"It's nice to see the team improving, that is important; it is nice, a good feeling.
"At the same time, you need to be realistic, and you can see the difference between us and the rest at the moment.
"Arsenal is five years together [with manager Mikel Arteta], City more than eight years together [under Pep Guardiola]. Liverpool is a bit different, but they didn't make many changes from the past.”
However, his young side have been great this season and they are up to third, level on points with Arsenal. I think they are the dark horses in this race, and if Liverpool hadn’t built such a gap, more would be made of their stunning start. Can they go all the way? I think they can go close, especially given their ‘first team’ aren’t expending any energy on the Europa Conference League.

Tottenham Hotspur @ 100/1
Ha. Don’t be silly.

Manchester United @ 150/1
If you fancy Ruben Amorim’s impact on Manchester United to be seismic, how about this for a long shot? They looked good against Everton in the 4-0 win, and face Arsenal away from home in midweek. With Marcus Rashford scoring goals, Bruno Fernandes getting back to his best and Amad Diallo the new star in red, they could get a result at the Emirates.
Now they are currently 15 points behind Liverpool, but if we predict a collapse from them, perhaps it is more worthwhile looking at the six-point gap between them and Arsenal. If they go and beat Arsenal on Wednesday night, that gap is cut to just three points and these odds will become much, much shorter. Listen, I think this would be a remarkable story, but I don’t think it is out of the question.
At these odds, I’d be tempted to put a couple of quid on United to do the unthinkable, and win the Premier League this season. Amorim’s magic wand could work wonders.
