Porto vs Man United Prediction: Ten Hag looking for response

Manchester United are looking to bounce back from a humbling Premier League defeat to Tottenham, when they travel to the Estadio do Dragao on Thursday night to face FC Porto (20:00, live on TNT Sports 2).
The two sides head into this match off the back of contrasting results - Erik ten Hag's team were brushed aside 3-0 by Spurs, while the hosts cruised to a 4-0 victory over Arouca. Read on for my Porto vs Man United prediction, as well as the latest team news and match odds.
Team News
The hosts will be without long-term absentees Zaidu Sanusi and Ivan Marcano, while Otavio has missed the past three outings with a muscle problem, so he remains a doubt for Thursday's clash.
Arsenal loanee Fabio Vieira returned to the fold last weekend so he could be fit enough to make his first start of the season here.
As for United, Leny Yoro and Luke Shaw remain on the treatment table, while Kobbie Mainoo was forced off in the first half against Spurs on Sunday with a muscle injury.
Harry Maguire, Mason Mount and Tyrell Malacia remain doubts, and Rasmus Hojlund could come in for Joshua Zirkzee up top.

Porto are 13/8 to claim all three points, giving them an implied win probability of 38.1%. United are 6/4 to win their first match of the new Europa League campaign, and the draw can be backed at 12/5.
Samu Omorodion leads the anytime goalscorer market at 9/5, followed by Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee at 2/1 and 21/10 respectively.
Porto to win @ 13/8
Ten Hag desperately needs a response from his players after the defeat to Spurs at the weekend, as well as the matchday one disappointment against FC Twente in this competition.
United have only won once away from home this season - against Southampton - and they've only scored once in their past three outings.
Porto, meanwhile, have won all four of their home matches this season - the most recent being a 4-0 win over Arouca - and conceded just once while scoring 11 themselves. The Portuguese side are clearly a team intent on attacking, which doesn't bode well for this shaky United backline.
With a tough trip to Aston Villa on the horizon at the weekend, the Red Devils desperately need a positive result to create some momentum heading to Villa Park, but I can't see it. United were cut open far too easily on Sunday, and I think there's plenty of value in backing the home win here.

Nico Gonzalez to score anytime @ 5/1
Porto's attacking midfielder was on the scoresheet at the weekend, taking his tally to three strikes for the season. He only found the net twice in 39 appearances in 2023/24, but he was deployed in a more defensive role under Sergio Conceicao.
Under new head coach Vítor Bruno - who took the job in the summer - Gonzalez has been allowed to play further forward, registering at least three shots in four of his seven league appearances.
The 26-year-old had five shots on matchday one against Bodo/Glimt, so I think he's decent value to score anytime on Thursday night.
