Portugal vs Italy Bet Builder Tips: 14/1 shot as Le Azzurre aim for quarters

Portugal and Italy enjoyed contrasting starts to their Euros campaigns and that could be a sign of things to come when they go head-to-head on Monday night. The Portuguese were utterly humiliated by their neighbours Spain in a 5-0 defeat while Le Azzurre dug deep to beat plucky Belgium 1-0.

Italy to win

A 1-0 victory over Belgium may seem like a solid if not spectacular start for Italy, but there was plenty to like about their win. They had almost double the expected goals (1.41-0.73) of their opponents and also limited the Belgians to just two shots on target while having seven of their own. 

That does not bode well for Portugal, whose defeat to Spain made it six games without a win. To make matters worse, they have shipped 24 goals in that run while scoring just three, blanking in each of their last four. 

The difference in quality between the pair is vast and Italy can secure a victory which would secure a spot in the knockout stages, assuming 1/20 shots Spain beat Belgium. 

Over 2.5 goals

With Portugal conceding an average of four goals per game across their last six matches, the over in their clash with Italy looks a great selection for a Bet Builder.

Arianna Caruso, Le Azzurre’s goalscorer against Belgium, is a tempting choice but it could be Roma’s Manuela Giugliano who steals the show this time around instead. 

Giugliano enjoyed an excellent season in front of goal in Serie A, netting 12 goals in 26 games, and a first Euros strike may be just around the corner for the box-crashing midfielder. 

Lucia Di Guglielmo to be booked

Although Italy were on top against Belgium, they still picked up two more yellow cards (3-1) than their opponents, suggesting they are an extremely competitive side even when things are going their way. 

Lucia Di Guglielmo picked up one of those bookings and given she has now been carded in five of her last eight appearances for club and country, it would be no surprise to see her fall foul of the referee again.
