Winless Port Vale are set to entertain high-flying Stevenage in League 1 on Tuesday evening (19:45, Sky Sports+) as the visitors aim to carry on their perfect start to the league season. Stevenage were mid-table last season but Alex Revell's side currently sit at the top of the standings with three wins in three so far.

Vale came up from League 2 as runners-up last season and their ambition will surely be for stability in the third tier. Vale Park is the setting for Tuesday's contest. Read on for Enda McElhinney’s Port Vale vs Stevenage predictions, as well as the latest team news and match odds.

Team News

Port Vale captain George Byers earned a red card early on in Saturday's scoreless draw at Burton Albion and must sit this one out.

Jordan Shipley could be the man to come into the engine room. Jaydon Stockley was an unused sub in that weekend stalemate and last season's 11-goal forward may get some game time now.

Stevenage boss Revell appears to have no injury concerns on the back of the win at home to Northampton on Saturday and could stick with the same XI as the likes of Jamie Reid and Dan Kemp attempt to continue their excellent starts to the campaign.

Port Vale vs Stevenage Odds

Despite being at opposite ends of the table at this early stage of the season, Port Vale are clear favourites at 8/5 to get the better of visiting Stevenage, with the early pacesetters priced at 2/1 to make it four wins from four. The draw is rated at a 2/1 chance.

Over 2.5 goals is trading at 11/8, while both teams to score is available at 1/1.

Stevenage to win @ 2/1

Pre-season odds had both these clubs trading around the 2/1 mark to be relegated. Stevenage therefore are the surprise leaders in League 1 after winning their first three games.

They look overpriced to make it four on the spin now against a Port Vale side with just one league goal in three outings.

Stevenage kept 17 clean sheets in this division last season, a tally bettered only by five teams. That defensive solidity remains and they have earned two shutouts in succession in the league since their opening day 3-2 away win at Blackpool.

Vale have fired two blanks in three games and discipline is a worry for boss Darren Moore with two red cards in three.

Stevenage are fancied to continue an excellent start to the term against goal-shy opponents at a ground where they have scored at least twice (90 minutes) in their last two visits.

Jamie Reid to score first @ 11/2

Northern Irishman Jamie Reid hit a personal-best tally of 18 League 1 goals in the 2023/24 season, Stevenage's first after promotion, but he managed only eight last term.

A consistent goalscorer is what Boro need and, following a contract extension in the summer, the 31-year-old has made a bright start with three goals in three starts. He's a man in form and could break the deadlock at Vale Park for the visiting side.
