HSV Hamburg

Group D at Euro 2024 gets underway on Sunday as Poland face the Netherlands in Hamburg (BBC One, 14:00). Poland boss Michał Probierz has suffered a major blow heading into this one as star man Robert Lewandowski has been ruled out of their opener through injury, making this tough task even more difficult.

The Netherlands have also suffered a key injury to a Barcelona player, as Frenkie De Jong has been ruled out of the entire tournament. He is so important to the Dutch team, and Ronald Koeman will have to come up with a solution to his absence. Below you can find my Poland vs Netherlands Bet Builder Tips for this Group D clash.

Poland vs Netherlands Odds

Netherlands to win

The Netherlands are the odds-on favourites to win this game, and I think they will be able to get the job done. Poland qualified for Euro 2024 by beating Wales on penalties, and have won against both Turkey and Ukraine in the build-up to this one, but they aren’t a great tournament team.

I’d have given them an outside chance with Lewandowski, but without him, I think they will come up short. They have a level of tactical flexibility, but man-to-man, the Dutch are superior and should get off to a winning start.

Memphis Depay to score

Depay has scored 45 goals in 92 games for his country and will be Koeman’s leading man in Germany. The Netherlands have scored plenty of goals in the build-up, scoring four goals against Scotland, Canada and Iceland in recent months. Cody Gakpo should provide the creativity from wide positions, and Depay should enjoy the responsibility of starting as the number nine. He can get off to a scoring start here.

Euro 2024 Odds

BTTS No

I think the Netherlands are one of the strongest teams in the tournament from a defensive point of view, and they have a list of centre-backs that the rest of the world envies. Virgil van Dijk, Nathan Ake and Stefan de Vrij are all likely to start, while Tottenham’s Micky van de Ven is also pushing for a place in the XI. With Denzel Dumfries at right-back, they boast a balanced and talented back line. Given Poland don’t have Lewandowski, I’m expecting a Dutch clean sheet here.

Van Dijk 1+ shot on target

The Liverpool centre-back is always a threat from set pieces and I expect him to be dominant in the air yet again. Turkey had eight corners against Poland even in defeat, while the Netherlands also managed to get eight in their last game. From one of those corners, or a free-kick, I think the captain will be able to fashion an effort on target.

Poland 16+ tackles

Poland are going to have to get stuck into the opposition if they want to get a result here and as a result, I think the tackles will be fairly high. The Netherlands are expected to dominate possession, and I think Poland are going to be nipping at their heels in order to try and win the ball back. 16+ tackles for the entire team feels like an achievable target.
