Peterborough united vs wigan athletic

It’s one win in 10 matches for Peterborough, who were hammered 5-1 at Lincoln on Saturday, with the Posh careering towards a relegation battle.

Wigan sit only three places above Darren Ferguson’s men in the League 1 table, but the Latics can open up a nine-point gap on Posh if they leave the Weston Homes Stadium with all three points on Tuesday night. Read on for my Peterborough vs Wigan prediction, as well as the latest team news and match odds.

Team News

Rio Adebisi is out and Peterborough will also be without Kwame Poku, who underwent surgery on a hamstring injury last month. Emmanuel Fernandez is a doubt after being substituted against Lincoln last weekend.

Mahamadou Susoho made a substitute appearance in the 5-1 defeat at Sincil Bank and the midfielder is in line for only his third appearance of the campaign.

Luke Chambers, Tyrese Francois, Matt Smith, Baba Adeeko, Kai Payne, Dion Rankine, Joe Adams and Steven Sessgnon are all currently sidelined with injuries and unavailable to Wigan boss Shaun Maloney.

The Latics won't be able to call upon Michael Olakigbe after the on-loan winger was recalled by parent club Brentford.

Peterborough vs Wigan Odds

Peterborough are 6/4 chances to pick up a much-needed three points at the Western Homes Stadium, while Wigan are 7/4 shots and the draw is available at 23/10.

Wigan to beat Peterborough @ 7/4

Wigan make Tuesday night’s trip to Peterborough in pretty good form and that could spell trouble for Posh.

Maloney’s men were good 2-0 winners against Bristol Rovers at the Brick Community Stadium on Saturday and that followed a 2-1 success at Stevenage.

The Latics were beaten by Burton in between those fixtures, but Wigan had the better of that contest and that was a pretty unfortunate defeat.

Clearly that isn’t world-beating form, but Peterborough are on a terrible run and it’s just one win in 10 matches for Posh.

Darren Ferguson’s men were crushed 5-1 at Lincoln at the weekend and their defence is now likely to be missing the injured Emmanuel Fernandez.

At 7/4 Wigan look a pretty tasty bet on Tuesday night.

Over 3.5 goals @ 5/2

Only Wrexham have scored more home league goals than the 27 Peterborough have managed this season, but, unlike the teams challenging at the top of League 1, Posh have major defensive issues.

Darren Ferguson’s men have conceded 52 goals in 27 third-tier games this term and their defence was a shambles when allowing five goals at Lincoln on Saturday.

No team has conceded more than the 18 set-play strikes that Posh have shipped and there have been more than four goals in 12 of Peterborough's 27 League 1 games this season.

Wigan have hit 10 goals in their last six away games, which certainly isn’t a poor return for a side of the Latics’ ability, and Maloney’s side look capable of punishing a depleted Posh backline.
