Atletico Mineiro have already secured their place in the Copa Libertadores knockout stages and, with two home games to go, Penarol will have high hopes of following them through.

Brazilian side Atletico Mineiro sit atop Group G having won all four of their matches so far, which includes a 3-2 victory when hosting Penarol just under three weeks ago.

They have won both away outings in the competition at Rosario Central in Argentina and Caracas in Venezuela, although a trip to Uruguay to face Penarol may prove that bit tougher.

The home team sit second behind Atletico Mineiro with six points, having won 5-0 at home to Caracas and then doubling up on their visit to Venezuela. Below you can find my Penarol vs Atletico Mineiro prediction, as well as the latest team news and odds.

Penarol vs Atletico Mineiro Prediction

  • Penarol draw no bet @ 11/10
  • Maximiliano Silvera to score at any time @ 12/5

Team News

Nahuel Herrera and Franco Gonzalez are both injured and will miss out for Penarol, but first-choice keeper Washington Aguerre has returned to fitness and should be included in the squad.

Midfielder Eduardo Darias should also return having missed last week’s trip to Caracas through suspension.

For Atletico Mineiro, Paulo Vitor, Rubens and Mauricio Lemos are all sidelined through injury.

Penarol vs Atletico Mineiro Odds

Having won all four of their Copa Libertadores matches, Atletico Mineiro are 11/8 to maintain their perfect record at Penarol.

The Uruguayan side are 15/8 - or a 34.8% chance - to get some revenge for their 3-2 loss in Brazil, while the draw is available at 2/1.

Both teams have scored in three of Atletico Mineiro’s four group wins and it is 10/11 for that to oblige again while over 2.5 goals is available at 6/5.

Former Porto and Zenit St Petersburg star Hulk heads the betting to open the scoring for Atletico Mineiro at 5/1.

Penarol draw no bet @ 11/10

This match carries far more significance for Penarol than it does Atletico Mineiro and, at their beloved Estadio Campeon del Siglo, they could claim a vital victory that would put them on the brink of qualification.

Atletico Mineiro had their measure in a 3-2 victory in Brazil at the end of April but Penarol have lost only one of their 10 home games this season and are a different beast in Montevideo.

That includes an emphatic 5-0 victory over Caracas in their only home outing so far in this competition and, having already qualified, Atletico Mineiro may be less motivated than their opponents.

For all they have won all four of their matches in this cup competition, the Brazilian visitors conceded in three of those outings and they have a crunch clash with Bahia in Serie A on Sunday.

The visitors have failed to win in four of their last eight away games and this looks set to be a much trickier test than any they have faced so far in the Copa Libertadores.

Maximiliano Silvera to score at any time @ 12/5

Since making the switch from Santos in January, Maximiliano Silvera has been a breath of fresh air for Penarol and, if they are to get a positive result, he is going to be key.

Silvera scored a hat-trick, opening the scoring inside 16 minutes, when Penarol routed Caracas 5-0 in their only home outing in this competition and that means he has eight goals in 15 starts since arriving from the Brazilian top flight.

The 26-year-old netted Penarol’s second goal in the 3-2 defeat away at Atletico Mineiro and he looks a big price to bolster that tally in Tuesday’s home meeting.
