Panama vs Dominican Republic Prediction: Win and a clean sheet for Los Canaleros

Panama continue their preparations for their second World Cup appearance on Wednesday night as they take on the Dominican Republic (7.45pm local, 1.45am BST at the Estadio Rommel Fernandez in Panama City.

This is Panama's penultimate warm-up friendly and their final game on home soil, before they conclude their World Cup 2026 warm-up against Bosnia in the USA later this week. 

Team news

Panama were without key midfielder Adalberto Carrasquilla for their 6-2 defeat to Brazil at the weekend, but there is a chance he could make an appearance on Wednesday night.

Jose Fajardo, Cecilio Waterman and Ismael Díaz should start in attack for the hosts.

The Dominican Republic failed to qualify for the World Cup and this is their only fixture during this international period.

The visitors have a number of players in their squad who play their club football in Spain, including Peter González and Alejandro López.

Panama may have lost 6-2 to Brazil at the weekend but that scoreline doesn't necessarily give a fair picture of how that game unfolded.

In the first half Los Canaleros matched their hosts at the Maracana for large periods. Panama conceded an early goal but then levelled matters, with Brazil restoring their lead just before half-time.

The Dominican Republic are ranked outside of the top 100 by FIFA and are a far easier assignment for Panama, who will be looking to pick up a morale boosting win before they make the trip to the USA.

Panama have struggled for clean sheets in recent matches but they have been facing a far higher standard of opposition.

When they have come up against sides outside the top 100, they have a far better defensive record with clean sheets against the likes of El Salvador, Guatemala and Suriname over the course of the last 12 months.

As such, Panama look capable of beating the Dominican Republic without conceding on Wednesday night.

Jose Fajardo to score anytime @ 1/1

There are a few contenders for a goal within the Panama side and at an odds-against price forward Jose Fajardo stands out.

The 32-year-old looked sharp after coming off the bench against Brazil with one shot on target and one blocked, and he has been in reasonable form for club side Universidad Catolica del Ecuador with two goals in his last seven games.

Fajardo is used to facing a better quality of defence and should be able to engineer a few chances against the Quisqueyanos back line, so he looks like a solid contender for an anytime effort.
