Group A looks wide open at the Club World Cup and Palmeiras will hope to get off to a winning start as they face Porto at the MetLife Stadium on Sunday night (23:00 BST, DAZN). With fellow group opponents Inter Miami and Al Ahly kicking off the tournament, both of these teams will fancy their chances of making it into the knockout stages.

Below you can find my Palmeiras vs Porto Bet Builder Tips as we search for a winner on the opening day.

Draw

I just cannot separate these two so I think the sensible course of action is to back a draw between Palmeiras and Porto. Betfred seem to agree, with the two almost inseparable in terms of odds for the win, and although most would lean towards the Portuguese outfit, that is perhaps underestimating the Brazilian giants.

Palmeiras won the 2021 Copa Libertadores to qualify for this Club World Cup, and although they haven’t hit those heights since, they have won two league titles in the last three seasons. They are also in wonderful form heading to the United States of America, having won 15 of their last 18 competitive games in all competitions.

Palmerias Club World Cup Predictions

Meanwhile Porto have had a really disappointing campaign by their high standards, finishing third in the league, a massive 14 points behind champions Sporting CP. Martin Anselmi is still a young coach with plenty to prove, so I believe this is a dead-even opener for us to look forward to. A draw is the most likely outcome.

Palmeiras vs Porto Stats

  • Palmeiras have won 15 of their last 18 competitive games
  • Porto's Samu Aghehowa has scored 25 goals in total this term

Samu Aghehowa to score

The Porto man can make a big name for himself at this tournament. It’s remarkable to think that he only joined the Dragons in the summer of 2024 and his debut year has been superb.

Atletico Madrid couldn’t get the best out of him but he was reportedly set to join Chelsea for £34m until an ankle injury stopped that transfer in its tracks. Instead, it was Porto that picked up the pieces at a bargain price of £13m and boy has Aghehowa delivered. He’s scored 25 goals in total, 19 of which came in the league.

Porto Club World Cup Predictions

He’s still only 21 and despite their wealth of young players, could prove to be the one that got away for the Stamford Bridge club. I think this tournament is going to be the perfect stage for him to shine, so let’s back him to find the net against Palmeiras.

Under 2.5 goals

There appears to be little to separate these two sides, which is reflected in the match odds. A cautious encounter seems likely, with both teams wary of giving too much away against what could be their main rival for top spot in the group.

Palmeiras tend to keep things tight at the back - they’ve conceded just eight goals in the Brazilian Serie A this season. Their matches have been low-scoring overall, with only 20 goals across 11 games, the fewest of any team in the league.

Porto, while generally more attack-minded, have become more solid defensively since Martin Anselmi took over as head coach in January. Under the Argentine, they've let in just 19 goals in 18 matches.
