Palmeiras vs Botafogo Prediction: Fogo to fail to fire for fourth consecutive H2H

Palmeiras, who missed out on the Brazilian Serie A title by three points last year, have made a positive start to the new season, picking up 13 points from their first six games (W4, D1, L1) to sit second heading into Wednesday's match against Botafogo FR at Allianz Parque (22:00 GMT, Premier Sports 1). The visitors, meanwhile, have kicked off the 2026 campaign terribly, losing three of their first four contests (W1).
Below are my Palmeiras vs Botafogo predictions, supported by all the latest team news and match odds.

Team News
Palmeiras could welcome back a couple of key players, defender Murilo and centre-forward Vitor Roque, for Wednesday's game; both have missed the Verdao's last two games with a knee and ankle injury, respectively.
However, Paulinho (leg) and Figueiredo (unspecified) are ruled out for Abel Ferreira's side.
As for Botafogo, suspended duo Alexander Barboza and Allan miss out, while Marcal (knee), Santiago Rodriguez, Chris Ramos and Matheus Martin (all unspecified) are injury doubts for head coach Martin Anselmi.

Booking Points Over/Under +52.5 - Over 52.5 @ 1/1
Palmeiras and Botafogo represent Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, respectively, so Wednesday's game isn't a derby, but there is an undeniable rivalry between the two clubs that has been swirling around for the last couple of years following the Verado's title win in 2023, when Fogo's American owner, John Textor, alleged referee bias in favour of the champions.
As well as clashing in the league, the sides have faced off in the Conmebol Copa Libertadores and Fifa Club World Cup in 2024 and 2025, respectively. Their meeting in the latter tournament saw six regulation-time yellow cards issued, amounting to 60 booking points, with a further four yellows and one red produced in extra time of the last 16 tie that was settled by Paulinho's 100th-minute strike.
Five of the last six head-to-heads have seen at least 60 booking points awarded, with two of those games featuring a red.
Fogo's last two league matches have seen a player dismissed, too; Fluminense's Agustin Canobbio was sent off in a 1-0 win for Flu on February 12, when 105 booking points were recorded, and in Saturday's 3-0 defeat to Flamengo, Barboza was given his marching orders for the losing team, with 75 booking points totalled.
Only two of Palmeiras' six league games this season have finished with 60+ booking points, but the visit of Fogo could create a carnival atmosphere in Allianz Parque, and both sets of players will be keen to match that energy on the pitch.

To Win to Nil - Palmeiras @ 6/4
Palmeiras and Fogo faced off three times last year, twice in the league, and once in the Club World Cup, but just one goal was scored in regulation time across the three games.
First, the two teams met in Serie A at Allianz Parque, where they ground out a goalless draw, and at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia (USA), there was another 0-0, this time in a Club World Cup last-16 tie, which went to extra time.
Their most recent meeting came at the Estadio Olimpico Nilton Santos in Rio de Janeiro last August, when Felipe Anderson struck the only goal of the match in the 45th minute.
So, Fogo have failed to fire in the last three head-to-heads, and they're not exactly in sparkling goalscoring form heading into Wednesday's fixture, having blanked in half (seven) of their last 14 games across all competitions, including their last two, a 1-0 home loss to Ecuadorian outfit Barcelona SC in the Copa Libertadores on March 11 and a 3-0 defeat at the same stadium three days later.
Palmeiras, meanwhile, have kept back-to-back clean sheets at Allianz Parque, edging out Novorizontino 1-0 in the Paulista on March 3, and beating Mirassol in Serie A by the same scoreline on Sunday.
Ferreira's side are unbeaten on home soil this calendar year, winning nine and drawing one of their 10 games across all competitions, and they've recorded a shutout in half (five).
